I was catching up on my German Globecar Forum this morning and it appears that the PVC converters are beginning to run out of a few critical parts needed to complete their respective builds.

In this particular example the German dealers are reporting that the stocks & supplies of internal LED strip lights is now fully exhausted and that any potential resupply will not happen for at least 8-weeks, minimum.

The lights are used by Globecar, Possl, Adria and Knaus, possibily others, but it'll be interesting to see what else will be effected over the coming weeks.

All the best,

Andrew

I was speaking to an importer about 3 weeks ago (motorhome industry) who was telling me they were drastically low on a lot of stock. This was Chinese manufactured goods. They mentioned transport being the big issue.

I had another email from them a few days ago, saying they now expected stock early May.

I suppose they have orders already in the system I bet the showroom is pretty quiet now

I imagine lots of components will be in short supply throughout the year now but hardly a priority at the moment is it ?

Agreed, but like every other industry, the current global issues will produce a negative effect of some kind - and this is a motorhome club after all and the point IMO is relevant to us as van owners.

Perhaps this whole situation will provide the proof to many companies that cheapest isn’t actually always better ?
Europe is certainly going to be a different place in a few weeks or months when we start to see the lasting effects on business.

I imagine it could quickly become a priority for those employed in that sector if companies start folding due to supply chains collapsing.

I quite agree with you, this thing is going to have far reaching implications but for the moment there are things of greater importance, like finding some essential supplies.

VW just announced car factories to shut due to low stock and demand so this is going to have a huge effect on all industries, travel, hospitality, manufacturing etc.

Reading on a maritime news site a couple of days ago, the big container lines have all had to make a big reschedule and route change..... obvious, you might think (I did) but the principle reason is a critical shortage of available empty containers in China so they are having to source even more empty ones than usual

According to Le Figaro online, Renault and PSA have shut down their car factories in France.

No news about the Sevel van factory so far.

Sadly just the beginning. Who is going to purchase a house, car, furniture, clothes, etc etc for 3-6 months

I work on large construction projects and expect all our sites to be closed by the end of next week. 100's of self employed not earning and other employers with serious cash flow issues. Then when things get back to normal, it will be weeks and months before we get timber, plywood, glass, ceramics etc etc back into the country

Just read from a reliable source (but not confirmed myself) that the Sevel factory has been "paused".

That was all I heard, but reading between the lines...

I feel sorry for you people who are reliant on work, either as employees who may suffer redundancy, or as self-employed.

We retired people are somewhat protected, although if the UK Government has to borrow trillions to save jobs taxes will have to go up.

All other things being equal (i.e. they meet the full specification), it is better. Businesses would be at a competitive disadvantage if they didn’t choose the cheapest.

If businesses could procure hindsight, they would; unfortunately no one has yet identified a provider!
