Driving my Eriba up a back street in Derby, cars parked either side when a car pulled out of the line of cars on my left and hit my van somewhere around the front nearside wheel. By the time I'd stopped the car had scraped the whole of the nearside, The driver of the car tried to blame me as "I should have known he was parking" (no indicator on). My son, in the passenger seat jumped out and took a photo - the other driver was just getting out of his car...............

The damage to my van at first appears minor, bottom of the door, red paint on locker doors, rear spat and bumper end but closer inspection shows that the cassette locker has been knocked in (cassette jammed in).
The ERIBA coachwork is steel framed, not wood, I reported the accident and Aviva have recommended DMR at Doncaster for repairs - any other recommendations anyone ?

Sorry to hear of your problems.
Since the demise of Peter Hambilton many on here have mentioned the garage below for Hymer repairs. Maybe worth a look.

Sorry yo see youve had a prang at no fault of yours but Just a word of warning. I had a similar incident 2 years ago in the truck. A van collided with me and I took photos etc and reported it to our insurer. . I had a witness too, who was the owner of the boat we were transporting. A year later the van owner makes a claim. So, we provide a witness statement and low and behold, the vans insurer are saying they're not independent cause I knew him? He was a customer and that all. So, if you rely on your sons testimony if the car driver blames you, be very careful cause the car drivers insurer will try to discredit any witness statement. It's so wrong this insurance malarkey!

Pity you didn't have a dash cam. As long as no one was injured metal can be replaced.

Sounds like he was a blithering idiot, if I have a prang and its my fault I'm happy to own up.
Good luck with the repairs, as said best if you can take it to a specialist who knows Hymer/Eriba vans.

I had a twat once reverse into me while I was stationary. I couldn't move, so just sounded my horn, repeatedly, as he slowly approached me and collided with me. After he hit me , we both surveyed the damage to my car. He said something like "I thought I heard a horn somewhere. Anyway, we both seem to have sustained the same damage, let's call it quits". I said something like "I don't think so". A lady approached us and said to me "I saw what happened, it was entirely his fault, I'll give you my name and address".

I went to a repair place, and told them what had happened. After describing the incident, and the fact that I had an independent witness, he said he could get the repairs done at no cost to me or any effect on on my insurance, with a hire car while mine was being repaired. I have to admit to feeling a little uneasy about this, as I realised that the hire car would have been at an inflated rate and his insurance would be paying, but the fact that he had been a twat kind of swayed my decision, and I accepted.

Not sure what the point of this post is, but it seemed appropriate :)

My scooter which Was bought for my Motorhome was run over while parked , i tried to help & said £500 cash would sort it if he didn’t want to claim his insurance , he phoned me up next day to say it was my fault as I had a duty of care where I parked it & most of the damage wasn’t him & was already there also the scoot wasn’t even worth £500 , I immediately contacted my insurance who put me in touch with a independent claims firm FOC,
Had a new hired scooter for 5 weeks, my scooter was written off , they paid me £1275 for it , then sold it back to me for £230 , I hope his insurance went through the roof lol

I was knocked off my bike 4 years ago. I got names and telephone numbers of witnesses and gave them to the police. They weren't interested in one of them because apparently, the guy was a friend of mine. It turns out that I had been to an event that he had been to many years previously and I might have seen him at a other event 9 months before. I wonder at what point does a vague acquaintance become vague enough to be an impartial witness.

I used a similar service from Mazda Accident Management. On two occasions my car was hit while parked unattended at a supermarket with the drivers then driving away.

I had witnesses for both.

The last time, the guy refused to admit liability even with loads of evidence - he got taken to court by the accident damage company :-)

I got my car repaired on each occasion along with a hire car for the duration.

But, note that irrespective of whether you make a claim or not to your insurer, you are contractually obliged to tell them of the incident even it is for “information purposes only”.....and they WILL put your insurance up next year a little as you are an unlucky person!
