No that was added in the price then plus vat

Is postage subject to VAT?

If not, and the charge is for 'Postage and packing' they would only be liable to charge and remit VAT on their packing service, so any charge to you of VAT on postage would be a scam.

Geoff

Postage stamps are exempt from VAT. The exemption only relates to services supplied by the Post Office for the conveyance of postal packages. Charges for postage and packing made by suppliers are subject to VAT and that tax can be reclaimed where the goods are used for business purposes.

That really is taking the p1ss.
I would be tempted to write to the ceo of Hymer,if they are the supplier/maker,if only to make me feel “better”.

A few years ago I, accidentally, removed the outside weight plate (bit of plastic but looked metallic). I contacted Hymer and they sent a replacement. Obviously only any use for my vehicle. Got it quite promptly but €125.00. I phoned to pay (gritted teeth) and said how expensive it was. They said, if you want to, return it.
I contacted a local printing company and they copied it. 3 copies for..... wait for it..... £5.00, yep a fiver. I immediately posted the replacement back to Hymer and they wrote and thanked me.
Tbf, I did think they'd negotiate but nope. Either €125.00 or return. Hey ho!!!!

I'm surprised they sent it without it being paid for in advance.
Some people would have denied it's arrival and blamed the post office

Actually they just sent it with the invoice. No prepayment. I initially said could I get the relevant details and they offered to send me a replacement. Obviously if they'd said the price at the time, I wouldn't have requested one.

On my Hymer one of the small plastic bits that clip in under the front sliding window has been missing for some years now. Brownhills wanted over £10 for new one. I had some clear tape, so put some over the slot.

The mark up on spare parts across most manufacturers is nothing short of obscene and constitutes borderline legal fraud in my opinion. You want it and we've got it seems to be their mantra and the reason why they think they can charge whatever they like. It's high time something was done to limit spare part price mark ups but I won't hold my breath on this happening in my life time.

I know the "clip" you're referring to, and the scandalous price!! We have five vent slots total on our Hymer and had all five vent covers when we bought the van five years ago, only one vent cover is left now and at £11.98 each (from Brownhills) I would be loath to fork out that price for a plastic moulding that looks like it probably cost pennies to manufacture.
Due to the high price of replacement and the ease with which they can be removed, I suspect that many a missing vent cover did not "fall" off.

My example is the plastic back shell for the high level brake light. It's a Hymer part that lines the slot cut in the back panel for the light. It's made of very thin flimsy, black plastic. Quote from Hymer via Brownhills - £131 delivered. I didn't bother - just taped the cracks.

My fridge sliding lock bit of plastic would have been about £30 they said at one of the shows. :(

I didn't order it. Just use my finger nail.... price £0.
