Having heard that Morrisons will not allow any Motorhome to use the Autogas pumps I Emailed their Customer Service team to ask why. It took 2 emails and a phone call to get any response. At that stage they said their policy had always been not to allow Motorhomes to fill at Autogas pumps due to "Health & Safety" When I asked why a lpg converted land rover could use the pump and not a Motorhome with exactly the same tank and filler could not I was met with a silence followed by: I will enquire and if we want to say anything else we will Email you."
I got the Email today and basically " Motorhomes gas systems are not tested every year but cars are,so unsafe Motorhome systems could cause fires on forecourts. There have already been 2 motorhome caused fires on forecourts this year! Calor, the supplier to Morrisons fully support the action. Morrisons close the Email by saying they will not enter into any further debate on this matter from me!
The phrase " I don't bl**dy believe it" comes to mind.
Comments please, and perhaps a few Emails to Morrisons.!

No just don't use Morrisons. It is their profits that are falling, head man being sacked and all that.

Stop using Morrisons and e-mail them to say you are doing so because of their discrimination.

Looks like Morrisons don't allow MH's to use their carparks either unless they can fit in a single bay - see results of GJH's work in this thread:

Where do they get their information, there is no compulsory annual testing of LPG systems on any vehicle, in fact there is no compulsory testing of the installation, although your insurer will usually want to see the certificate assuming it has been declared.

We had lpg vans on full maintenance contract hire, the lpg was never tested in the four years we had them. One van had a problem, the supplying main dealer had to call a specialist in as no one in the dealership was qualified to work on lpg

We have filled many times at Boroughbridge morrisons!
They send someone out to check you have an external filler he always gave us the thumbs up.
P.S. gaslow

Use our local Morrisons to gas up the moho regularly no problem

Why cause an issue with them based on rumour and hearsay?

We have always used Morrisoms with no problem.

Now you have made it an issue, we can all expect nice shiny 'No motorhome' signs!

I don't know anything about LPG but I thought I'd understood from this forum that it wasn't right to refill bottles on forecourts? One of the Morrisons fires appears to have been bottles:

Would somebody clarify please? (MHF is a great place for us beginners to learn!) :)
It isn't right to refill Calor or similar hired bottles but it is fine to fill fixed bottles like Alugas and Gaslow which have a fixed filling point and bottles which are made for refilling.
Our local Morrisons doesn't sell Autogas but we have an independent filling station only about a mile away where the staff are always happy for us to fill up - normally ask me where we have been, did we enjoy it and where are we going next :)

I have my tank and installation checked every year by Chris or John at Autogas2000. I have a throughput of over 1000 litres per year so things do get worn. Inspection before last he found a valve was faulty. I do this for peace of mind not for any other reason.

Jonandshell, I have not made any issue! Morrisons have. I was stopped from filling up at Boroughbridge last week (I have filled up there many times) I have a Gaslow system with external filler. Perhaps your commentwas on "rumour and hearsay"

Must have been a slow news month for them!

Never had a problem filling anywhere!

Clear!

Maybe Morrisons Kings Lynn didn't get the memo!

These petrol Transits don't half drink some fuel, I'm glad we had it converted to LPG!:)

If you have an external filler how do they know you are filling the bottles and not the main fuel tank for the vehicle. I do not have refillable LPG bottles but do they automatically cutout at 80% fill thus not requiring you to check your bottles. If this is the case the garage would not know what you are filling whether you run on LPG or not. Is it going to be the case of Motorhomes will not be given LPG full stop.

It would have been more useful if they had concentrated on the campervan owner and his gas installation than the heroes, although they definitely deserved being commended for their quick actions, in order to give a clearer idea of what actually occurred.

However I can well believe that if there had been a build up of gas in the gas locker that this could easily be ignited in hot weather - this happened to us when we had a gas leak which we didn't know about: it was very hot, about 38degrees, and we were in France on our way back up to the ferry after a long drive north, just past Paris we stopped for a break ... I went to the loo and hubby turned on the gas at the bottle and then got back inside and opened a cupboard door to take out something which was under the sink where the leak was - as soon as he opened the door the gas ignited ... all we can put this down to is the heat as we hadn't turned the fridge on, or done anything else.

& hope he was OK... & you too

We fill up with LPG regularly at the local Morrisons never had a problem no one has ever come out to 'check' on us.
I know another Funster uses the same one on a regular basis as well

So if I pulled into Morrisons with an LPG powered motorhome and needed to fill, would they turn me away and there was no more garages within range. Could I sit there and refuse to move as there was not enough fuel to go anywhere to fill up. What would happen then?

Just fill it anyway! by the time the much harassed assistant clicks on, you would have filled up, paid, and be long gone. I did notice last year a MH filling his fixed tank(s) at a Tesco garage outside Carlisle. It was a 'card only' fill, with no office, tills or attendants.
