I’m not an Android person but if you put your finger on #3 and hold your finger on screen and slide it across does that give letters.

ok. In which case. Could it be the letter related to the number? Just guessing now :(

No, as I've tried that already. I've tried taping just "3" once; and another time I taped twice on "3" , which is supposed to give D and the call stopped!
I've just had a voice call with an advisor Lambda who told me you can change your code! Horray thought I... and went on my account on the puter this time, and went on settings.. then "modify id code".... Yeah right... it says you need at least 2 letters! B***** !!!!! Worse than the actual one , so cancelled it. Back to another solution.

I found as well that (how? don't ask me), I had 2 passwords in the phone memory and that copy /paste them was working while having a voice call. Now I'm trying to find out how the heck I've been able to do that..... Probably I opened an account on some site and entered a password, and probably was asked do you want the phone to remember it, and I said yes.... Now I think I'm going to try and do something more physical to leave my brain alone for a while... my head hurts!!!

I think you might have to do the multiple tap quite quickly to make it work, absolutely no pause in between

Bleeding Hell if it was me it would have been in the bin ages ago, or I would wait until the Grandaughter comes around.

Could be wrong but I think the number of presses on the corresponding number should = the correct letter in the recipient's end so if you wand a d, just a press of 3 should do it. If you wanted an e, 2 x 3 would be it. Might be worth a try?

I think same issue on iphones …. From an apple forum but there are no replies

Using Keypad For Letters During Phone Call

In my work I am often routed to a company phone directory where I am asked to enter the first 3 letters of a persons name to be connected with them. While the iPhone keypad shows the letters in the normal way, there is no option for individual letters unless it’s the first letter listed under each number. If the first 3 letters are ALL, for example, using the 5 for the letter L simply doesn’t work – no matter how many times you press it.

No one answered ot
hers who’ve asked this question, so I’m asking it again.

Does Apple really not have an answer to this? Is it really that hard for them?

I think you need to enter a symbol code to get D in try putting *68# into the number string at the appropriate place. So 123456789*68#123456.
Can't test that theory so could be completely wrong.
