Having had a dongle off three for some years kept only for the van have seen threads on here for a loaded SIM on three which lasts for 48 months for about €45 We don't use a lot of data when we are away and as I pay €10 a month I am assuming the loaded SIM is the cheapest way to go Question- could I put the loaded SIM straight into my dongle as that is already on three
seems obvious I can but am I missing something

Yes you can do that I think although mine stopped working at about 18 GB in Europe.
Some obscure fair usage condition apparently which I didn't really understand but others may know more about it.

Yes you can but it may not be the cheapest way to get data now ... do you have phone contracts already? How much 'abroad' usage and/or time do you need?

Surely at £1 per gb, if you only use about 1gb a month ( like us) how could ANY contract be cheaper

I just tether our gadgets to my phone though I have got 40Gb to play with on EE.
We do use a lot off data for mapping and I use the BBC sounds app for Radio 2 Ken Bruce Pop master.
Too much hassle to get a DAB radio fitted to the van.
Their fare use policy abroad is 15Gb per month in any 3month period I think.
If your going to be away for some time PAYG might be the best way to go, although getting a local sim for the country your in might work better
I used to use a Vodafone PAYG sim when abroad as it was pretty good on the data costs at the time, so I would say do some research.
I’d wait till after brexit, there is talk of roaming costs to return for some people.
The mobile companies are saying they have no plans to bring back roaming costs but that may change for new contracts afterwards.
