Mk7 Transit windscreen washers (1 Viewer)

My windscreen washers are making the right noises but no water coming out, I split the pipe under the bonnet and no water therefore nozzles not to blame.

Looking under the van the washer system looks a pig to get out. Any tips or thoughts?

Hi Sandancers had a similar problem with mine and yes a pig to get to the pump, so asked the garage when I put it in for a service to strip and clean the washer pump whilst up on the ramps and now all good again.

On our old one the bottom of the reservoir had silted up to the point where no water could get out. It was a while ago but I think I took the pump of the bottom of the reservoir and cleared it. It did seem strange that it could silt up like that.
The actual pump was fine!

jack up ,axle stands,remove wheel, ,pump & tank is there. on the left . You can actually see the bottom of the tank when lying underneath with wheel removed.
2 x 10mm socket screws removes plastic cover .pump is on side at bottom under the plastic cover part.

1st is looking in to left with wheel off.
2nd same & shows the black plastic you need to remove 2 x 100mm socket
3rd is view from underneath were pump is behind the bottom plastic part

Have you the time and tough skin on your knuckles ? And a good vocabulary of swear words .

Have you thought of filling it with something like citric acid, but food grade. It’s a great cleaning agent and might just dissolve or shift the blockage

Syphon out the contents and fill, it can’t hurt to give it a go.

True, but I get so nervous handing the keys over to any garage mechanic.

So, today I set about to fix the washers.

Dead easy !

One 10mm bolt removed and a sharp tug removes the black over-cover from the washer bottle (easy done from the passenger side wheel arch). Get underneath and remove the wires to the pump which is easily visible in front of you, wiggle and pull on the pump and it comes out of the grommet.

No water came our of the grommet once the pump was away, therefore blockage in the tank. Grip and pull on the grommet and out it comes followed by the water. The grommet is moulded with a fine mesh which was blocked with a substance which looks like solidified windscreen cleaner. Wash it out under tap, rebuild in opposite to dis-assembly and job is done.

I could now do that job in 10 min at the roadside if required.
