With all the stories of thieves cloning key fobs or simply taking keys and therfore negating electronic imobilisers is it practical to fit a mechanical imobiliser?
Maybe a simple switch hidden under the dash breaking the ignition wiring?
Any ideas or thoughts from anyone?

A hidden switch breaking the wiring to the sensor that shuts off the fuel pump in the event of a collision probably best. I wouldn't interfere with any wiring to the ignition switch - there's no ignition system as such on a Diesel engine and the switch has many mysterious functions.
