We've just got back from Bridgend after taking the poorly father in law to Bridgend hospital to see his dying brother, not a great day as you can imagine but not helped by the fact it took us 4 hours to get home when normally this is just a 1 and a half hour journey, this is due to the M4 being shut at the entrance to the tunnel and then being diverted back on yourself and then through Newport, and these roadworks are happening until January next year! God knows what it'll be like in rush hour but if you've got an option I should avoid it at all costs, ridiculous queues and this was on a Sunday evening.

Living here it is a travel holdup at the best of times. They are also an accident black spot as three lanes narrow to two.

The Brynglas Tunnels are a hot topic here, there are plans to build a new motorway to the south of Newport to remove the tunnel black spot but continual protests keep causing delays. I believe more has been spent on planning meetings, consultation, consultant and expert fees than the cost of the new road!

Anyone who travels on that section of the M4 knows how dangerous it is and need a relief road.

If the M4 was being built now the tunnels would not exist but when the road came a huge steelworks blocked the alternative route but most of the steelworks has gone and the opportunity now exists for a better route.
