WEll i made the totally moral decision to cancel Sky and I have about 2 hours 20 minutes left of my contract with them after paying them the princely sum of 92 quid a month for having everything and HD and in 2 rooms.
I would like to say i have had good value from them.
If only they would have accepted my parting from them in a nice manner instead of trying to cajole me into remining with them.

It's there on the internet available free of charge. I can watch it on my PC, tablet, phone and TV.

It's not technically illegal to watch pirate streams. Downloading them to a hard drive to keep is a copyright infringement which is illegal.

The people operating the websites are the ones definitely breaking laws which is why they hide in places like Russia.

That wasn't the point I was making anyway. How long do you think Sky, or anyone else of that matter, will continue to produce the broadcast if everyone stops subscribing to them and looks for pirated streams instead?

It's not "dodgy" if the website has permission from the copyright holder to reproduce the content. Google in particular is very sensitive about copyright infringement on websites it indexes.

A good example is music. I'm sure you remember the fuss a few years ago over music sharing and streaming services and the resulting legal actions all over the world. The services that facilitated music piracy such as Napster have pretty much all been closed down. That situation has resolved itself into legitimate streaming services such as Spotify and Apple Music that are licensed properly and have fees for certain parts of their service.

The same thing will happen sooner or later with TV streaming. Funnily enough it will more than likely be things like Kodi that will hasten that - if the illegal sites aren't indexed by Google and Kodi is the only easy way to find them sooner or later someone will sue the developers for facilitating breach of their copyright, the same as what happened with Napster, and that will be the end of that.

I'll be more than happy for all indexes on all search engines to get rid of them then I can watch TV as it used to be.
If I want to watch football, I'll go to the stadium as I occasionally do and then it's going directly to the clubs and not to middle men.

Yes, I did hear about this, and more important to us, the loss of discovery channels and Swmbo's beloved TLC. (She watches that much like I watch Dave...)

Eurosport was good when it showed MotoGP but since it lost that a few years ago I don't think I've put the channel on once.

I called a couple of months back to leave Sky as we mostly watch channels that you can get in Freeview, but was pursuaded to stay, at a better price, provided we signed up for a year.

As Swmbo likes TLC and we can get More 4 HD on Sky (but not on Freeview) it seemed the best way forward.

But if they do lose "Discovery ", I will be cancelling Sky and Sky Broadband (and go elsewhere for Broadband) . I would consider their provision of Discovery as a material influence in my decision to enter into a fresh contract with them, and as far as I am concerned their not providing it would be a fundamental breach.

Surprising the Sky chat on line help desk was unavailable tonight, and the phone line was actually engaged as opposed to "in a queue, your call is important ".

I'm going to sit back for a few days and see IF this change happens, and if it does, cancel.

Personally I think it's willy waggling by both parties and it'll blow over...
