i,m a newbie
Hi,

I have joined this site as I am so confused about everything you need to consider when buying your first motorhome. I have saw so many bad reviews about every type of motorhome available. Can anyone guide me to what is the best type of motorhome for a newbie. I intend to spend about £35,000 so would like something reliable.

i will buy from the preferred sellers list but don’t even know what to start looking at. I would preferably like a 4 berth with a fixed double bed as have broken my back and don’t want to be climbing ladders.

Any advice would be gratefully received

:hiya: If looking for 4 berth because you will have 4 people then one major thing to check is that the MH has 4 travelling seats.

I would sugggest you get round some dealers to see what layout suits you. Once you've decided on that you can start to compare different makes. With your budget you're going to be looking at a used van. There are many lovely, very lightly used ones out there. But always insist on a recent habitation check to ensure there's no damp as that can be very expensive to repair. Good luck with your search..

It pains me to say this but my advice is to go for a European built motorhome, not British.

:pink: look at loads try to hire one you like to see how it is to live with it (y)

Research PAYLOAD before you buy anything. Lots of appropriate advice on this forum.

:pink: To the fun. Plenty of great advice and knowledgable MHomers on this site.

I advised a friend on this recently. Keep some cash in your pocket and buy a slightly older Hymer. They are better built than the current ones and hold their value very well. If after 2 years you don't like it, you can get most if not all your money back out when selling. A new van loses a huge chunk of value when you pull off the forecourt and may likely come with teething issues. The older van will have all those niggles hopefully sorted and the toys added by the previous owner, saving again

I just brought my first motorhome from goodmans motorhomes in waltham abbey. Alot of decent ones around £35,000 with a top class service. Definitely recommend them 👍

Hello and welcome.
Read Jim’s Buyers Guide,on here.

In September we will take delivery of our new van......£41k got us a new Sunlight Cliff 600 (the 601 is the 4 berth) Ducato 140, 6m PVC van, lots of extras and five year vehicle and habitation warranty. It’s the size we needed for our parking space and we wanted a fixed bed.

Sunlight are part of the Hymer group. (y)

Welcome! It’s a case of go and see, poke about and find out what feels right for you. Why 4-berth? If you really need them, then fine. If, on the other hand, you’re trying to anticipate being kind and accommodating family/friends then I’d advise think again and get yourself a 2-berth. There’ll be just as much room but everything will be less crowded. Suggest do as much reading and research as you can and buy what feels right. Enjoy the search.
