London LEZ scare (1 Viewer)

I had to go to London yesterday, not worried about the Low emission zone ad the MO HO is compliant. But I had a shock when I passed a sign on the Thames embankment " low emission zone 1" I'm not sure if my 14 year old van is ok here. I looked it up when I got home. It doesn't start until April next year. I don't go to London often and so I have no idea where the zones are. I passed the sign as I drove along the embankment so it would have been very difficult to turn around. Anyone going to London next year will have to be very careful.

Our old motorhome is not compliant 2012 euro 5 3500kg £12.50 a day.
Plus the congestion charge if in the week.
I would say our Spanish van would be OK 2017 euro 6 but we don't want to go there anyway. Bob.

Don't foreget that being foreign even if it complies which it does, it has to be registered .Worth doing as it is basically anything inside the M25

You cannot go . If directed to by say a Policemen then I would want it in writing or prefer to be arrested as you will receive a fine .
Say the Dartford crossing is shut & you are not compliant. The only way is to go the opposite way around the M25.

She is nowhere near the ULEZ, which is very Central London, although within the LEZ, but if petrol or diesel under 3,5t she has no problem.

She is nowhere near the ULEZ, which is very Central London, although within the LEZ, but if petrol or diesel under 3,5t she has no problem.

We have a few friends in London and visit now and again, but with no plans to go into London or its LEZ for while unless the Dartford crossing is closed when we travel up to Suffolk a few times a year, I thought I would apply. ( French reg van so need to send an application)
I got my registration back in a few days, now fully compliant but it seems when the ULEZ comes into force, I will have to reapply if I want to go there.

I know a small firm that runs to erith, not all the time and they are wondering if to give up that work or buy new trucks.

Even though the ULEZ hasn't started yet they emailed me a while back that " 53% of those who were surveyed( that included me who voted against) agreed that the ULEZ should be extended ".So from =ctober 2021 it goes out as far as the north & south circulars-

ULEZ is coming
To help improve air quality, an Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ) will be in place in central London from 8 April 2019. Most vehicles including cars and vans will need to meet new, tighter exhaust emission standards (ULEZ standards) or pay a daily charge to travel within the area of the ULEZ.

From 25 October 2021, the ULEZ area will be expanded to include the inner London area bounded by the .

from the same date the existing LEZ emissions will get stricter.

When I asled TFl " 53% of what amount" I still haven't hada reply ? Funny that . Perhaps it needs an FOI ?

i actually called the T charge at present and applies to the present congestion zone so you have to pay twice next year the t charge goes and it becomes the ulez which will go out to the north and south circulars

So, if I can afford the daily charge, its alright to pollute and alledgedly kill people with my fumes. Kill people with the car i was encouraged to purchase to save the planet, diesal being better than petrol. I would therefore guess I might be wrong, if an mp drives his old diesal to parliament he would claim allowances to pay the charge, I realise Mayor Khan is the responsible he Im sure would claim his allowances too.

its social cleansing they need to force low income families out so they can redevelop everything for money
its not going to effect those who change their car every three years or companies that have new vans every three years the rich will happily pay 12.50 a day to bring their 5 year old range rover in but the poorer people often with families who run a 5 year old previa diesel will be stung

Just checked ours. The reg plate checker says “no charge for both LEZ and ULEZ. The text in the general part of the ULEZ website says anything worse than Euro 6 has to pay, but ours is Euro 5

Exactly it should be comply or nothing. Otherwise it shows it for the tax that it is. Same as allowing carbon credits to be bought/sold.

At the start it will then ectends to N & S circulars

In 2021 the ulez is being extended to the area within the North and south circular roads. Laura is just inside and her diesel car will not comply
