Wanted to go to Abbey Wood campsite! Been loads of times in our “euro 5” motorhome but it now appears that we can’t go unless we pay a fee☹️But if I have got it right it’s £100 a day to go into the LEZ AND £12.50 into the ULEZ .We love Abbey Wood because it’s so convenient to get into London so it looks as if we will not be going as we can’t afford to change our van for a euro6!Have stayed at Chertsey which is a great site and outside the LEZ zone but it’s a bit of a trek to the train station. You would think that in the interests of London’s economy that Motorhomes could and should be exempt from the charges as it’s only a short journey into the LEZ from the M25!

For some reason known only to them ,if it is a "15" reg it isn't compliant but if it is a "65" reg its ?
they appear to think that anything registered from the september on had to be euro 6.

Mines a 16 and compliant Euro5+
Mine is also a 16 plate Euro 5+ but according to the TFL checker is not compliant so would have to pay the ULEZ charge. There doesn't appear to be much consistency with their checker

Cheers

Trevor

The ULEZ standards for existing central London ULEZ and when the zone expands are:

  • Euro 3 for motorcycles, mopeds, motorised tricycles and quadricycles (L category)
  • Euro 4 (NOx) for petrol cars, vans, minibuses and other specialist vehicles
  • Euro 6 (NOx and PM) for diesel cars, vans and minibuses and other specialist vehicles
  • Euro VI (NOx and PM) for lorries, buses and coaches and other specialist heavy vehicles (NOx and PM)

I would suggest some caution when using the vehicle checker if the vehicle is on a private plate, as some default to the car rate at £12.50 a day rather than the £100/day for large vehicles. Need to check it has accurately identified the vehicle before celebrating the lower rate. Some of our coaches have had that issue when the checker cannot identify the private plate properly.

its strange as some euro5's are compliant everything on a 66 plate seems to comply some mercedes are compliant earlier

Have stayed at Chertsey which is a great site and outside the LEZ zone but it’s a bit of a trek to the train station.

You could try Alexander Gardens car park at Windsor, it's an easy walk to the train station and you can overnight if you need to.

My transit is 2002 on a private plate.it’s a 2.4 dci and has always been ok when I have checked it’s reg but not now☹️

Our motorhome is registered on their website as a van.
DVLA has it correctly indicated but it seems that their website only indicates vans!

According to “Peterc10“ Abbey wood is outside the ULEZ ? Hope this is true. A good CAMC site for London.

It is outside the ULEZ however there are new standards for the LEZ for vehicles over 3.5 tonne which are in effect the same as the ULEZ, so you would need to be Euro 6, although apparently some Euro 5's are okay, this might be an error based on the date of first registration because most motorhomes do not have the Co numbers on the V5.

It's just a way of unfairly raising revenue. Vehicles naturally become old and get scrapped we don't need extra taxes on nearly new cleaner vehicles, if I was in charge I'd scrap the whole project.

Even if Khan loses it will not change, Khan probably will not lose remember London is very much a Labour stronghold.

I had a letter yesterday saying my wheelchair adapted car probably doesn't comply with the ULEZ standards. I know it doesn't.

The suggestion is that public transport, cycling or walking should be used or I should buy an electric vehicle. Public transport, cycling and walking will just not work for my 90 year old parents (which is why I run the adapted car) and an electric vehicle won't work for me at the moment due to living in a remote rural location, plus I have been told by several manufacturers that it is not possible to fit a ramp and hoist to their vehicles and there isn't the height for a wheelchair and occupant.

I do not need a lecture on how bad the air is in London and how it affects the health of Londoners - I think we are all aware of that (and it is just one reason I don't live there) - but at some point there may be a referral for medical treatment in London (either for me or my parents) ..... as things stand getting to a London hospital in my adapted car would be at best costly and possibly impossible. We just wouldn't take up the referral due to the transport difficulties.

I'm not sure what the answer is as I know the fumes in London are toxic and something has to be done. However the lack of allowance for disability adapted vehicles is possibly discriminatory?????

I think if you have a blue badge you may be exempt, you need to register it with transport for London, I said may be exempt, as it only applies to some blue badges.

Who was the letter from Helen, and why did they send it?

Abbey wood will be in the new LEZ. Over 3.5 tons £100.00. That nice Mr Khan!!

Ring the site they will know for sure.

at the moment the boundaries are North and South circular. Not sure after Octobe. Bailey said he would scrap the scheme if he wins.🤞🤞🤞🤞

Nope blue badge holders are not exempt. If your vehicle is registered as a disability vehicle with the DVLA and with TfL then you are exempt. Mine isn't and I don't qualify to make it so as I am not in receipt of the listed benefits - and neither are my parents. There are also other restrictions but I didn't read that far after I realised I wouldn't be able to get an exemption.

Strangely enough I had a email this morning from St Barts asking if I would be willing to take part in research - but it would mean frequent visits to the hospital. I had to say "no" and I gave the reason (TfL and the ULEZ) - they said they would take this up with TfL but I don't hold out any hope.
Who was the letter from Helen, and why did they send it?
The letter was from Transport for London and it says

"Transport for London (TfL) has provided the DVLA with a list of number plates of vehicles that we have identified as likely to be affected by the ULEZ, and the DVLA has sent these letters out on our behalf."

Why I have been "picked" I don't know unless it is because I've used the Dartford crossing in the last 3 years.

Received a letter today telling me my Car is not ULEZ compliant. Luckily I can get to all three offsprings homes on the North and South Circular roads. If I deviate inside the zone then its £12.50 a day, cheaper than changing the car, option B is to use our Honda Jazz which is OK but not as comfortable as my Jag.

Don't think so. The limits are the North and South Circular roads, and Abbey Wood is outside of those.
Abbey Wood is outside the ULEZ but inside the LEZ, the standard for the LEZ has been raised for vehicles over 3.5 tonnes to euro 6, if you are between euro 4 and euro 6 you will have to pay £100 to enter, if you are pre euro 4 you will have to pay £300, and remember it runs from midnight to midnight so if your trip goes over midnight you will have to pay twice.
Obviously this pertains to motorhomes not cars.

I believe that Boris laid out the zone!
The Ultra Low Emission Zone is a fee charged to the most polluting vehicles in Central London. Plans were laid out under Boris Johnson and introduced by Sadiq Khan in April 2019. It led to the number of the worst polluting vehicles dropping from 35,600 to 23,000 and a 20% reduction in emissions in Central London.

If someone only goes in to the zone occasionally it’s a lot cheaper to pay the tax then buy an electric car.

The London LEZ that extends basically to the M25, does not come into effect until October
Check if your vehicle is compliant here

Abby Wood can be used by any vehicle until that date.

There are a number of other campsites beyond the M25 that are close to rail stations that give fast access to central London,
One of which is at Bearstead it takes one hour and costs £8.

With any luck Khan will be out in the elections he has single handedly caused carnage on the roads I think the electorate will return the favour.
Blame the person that set it all up, the name is Johnson, Boris Johnson, former Mayor of London.

Whomever gets elected next time will not be able to make any real changes as the issue is driven by pollution levels which for most of London are way over any permitted measurement of safety.

Past users of the Dartford Crossing or the current ULEZ seem to have been targeted.
