I have been attempting to learn Spanish on Duolingo website for about 3 years, it's a struggle, can't get used to male and female bits ,has anyone else tried using websites to learn Spanish , this is assuming you're not Spanish !!

butterfly Spanish on you tube is quite good and free , strictly speaking she's mexican but language is mostly the same. I'm still struggling though, biggest problem is that they speak so fast.

Si, fast it seems, thanks

I used saysomethingin.com to learn Welsh. I think they also do Spanish as well as Manx, Cornish and Dutch. It's £10 a month, but well worth it IMO. All you do is listen to one soundtrack a week, where Arun says a sentence in English and you repeat it in your target language.
Dw i'n hoffi dysgu Cymraeg!

I remember a discussion with a Spanish teacher where he was criticising English with similar spellings pronounced differently, e.g plough and tough. my response was "fair enough, but we dont waste time trying to decide whether a table is male or female!"

You can alter the spead of the video on you tube, I'm learning the uku' and this option really helps :giggle:

As a upper B2 level Spanish speaker I'm involved in several WhatsApp groups where I get the chance to
speak with Spanish natives (50/50 in English and Spanish) I have used " https://www.italki.com/?gclid=CjwKC...k8wpJ9o0sVkQppr3PgCQWq92Cih8rmNRoCj7UQAvD_BwE " for paid chats with Teachers both in Spain and Latin America ranging from about £8 upwards for a hour ( more expensive for Spanish from Spain teachers )...Youtube has tons of teachers and Spanish content and a quick Google will throw up lots of Podcast links for every level .
I constantly watch Spanish Mortorhomers on Youtube and could name most of the things on a motorhome
in Spanish before I knew their name in English ...
It's never been easier to learn a language, so much on the Internet for free.

We went to some really good night school classes just before we left Leicester run by a native Spanish teacher. They were really reasonably priced about £40 a term we had homework every week and made rapid progress. The class did however reduce from about 15 to 6 as people who thought it was going to be an easy jolly realised the reality that learning another language fast is hard work. It was one of our biggest regrets that we moved away having found a gem of a class. He came from the north of Spain we picked his brains for a motorhome trip to Ribero Duero

I did night school for 3/4 years prior to living there, and only holidayed in Spanish speaking countries for many years, but never seemed to get on with the online versions. Became pretty good, for a Brit 😜, but now we are no longer living there, or visiting the country as often, my recollection of the finer points is fading unfortunately over the past 11 years ☹️

I'm using the Duolingo app on my phone to try and learn some Spanish. I've found it works well for me, partly because the app nags you to use it every day. I have looked at the website but the app is much better. I recommend it. :)

Tambien he estado aprendiendo español en Duolingo durante tres años. Pero, no tengo mucho tiempo para aprendiendo, porque, trabajo mucho! Y quiero hace muchos cosas.

También leo BBC Mundo, y miro Butterfly Spanish

I like collins learn Spanish with Paul Noble, it suits the way my mind works. I have them as mp3 on my phone and listen at the gym and in the garden. My wife was surprised how much I learned in such a short time compared to her more traditional method. I am not brilliant but I have learnt enough to get by.
I normally re listen to them before we head off again.

Same with French! Used to be quite good but the vocabulary goes with time along with the male or female bit!

If you irregularly conjugate a verb will you have to marry it?:xrofl:
No, because most irregular verbs, conjugate without following the rules (if I remember correctly?) they can be quite permissive. :xrofl:

I did an evening class and didn't really feel like I got much from it. I then did the Paul Noble audio book and learnt far more. The relaxed 'listen-guess-repeat' method seems to stick in my brain far better than formalised classes or vocab builders. Plus, he gives a ton of shortcuts that helps you gain loads of knowledge with very little effort.

One just needs to learn 'Conversational' Spanish (or any other language), just enough to give one confidence and stop brain fog.
After that, you pick up the rest once your in the country.

PS. My days of driving/operating Continental Tour Coaches and M/H's has now finished but I still have a number of European language learning kits, Maps & Guides (including Spanish) that I can bring to @Quakkers over Easter IF anyone would like me to.

50% of all monies will go to the Air Ambulance. Just PM me (without obligation) and I'll put them in the van.
