So, in August 2020 I had a new starting battery fitted to our 2004 Boxer by a well know High St brand. Great as the battery it replaced had a dud cell, but, every now and then it wouldn`t start but I surmised operator error as I thought that I might not have turned the key far enough but second twist of the key and it would always start. Until a few weeks ago when we were parked up all day only to discover that it wouldn`t start. Out with the jump start pack and no problem. However after about every 10 days or so turn the key and nothing, no voltage showing on the gauge. Plug in and charge and everything was fine until last Thursday and the same thing, no volts, no start so fully charge on Friday from the household mains and hey ho all good. I decided first thing Saturday to carry out a load test but lo and behold nothing showed on the meter until I jiggled the positive lead on the tester and the motorhome alarm went off and I had power but also noticed in the dark recesses of the Boxers engine bay sparks from the positive battery terminal. Now the clamp bolt was tight but the clamp was not tight on the battery post. I believe this to be because the Peugeot, Citroen, Fiat range have a plate attached to the positive battery terminal but, this plate also clips across the battery. If this clip is installed before the battery terminal it`s difficult to get a full insertion of the said terminal into the clamp so the clamp is tightened on the reduced diameter at the top of the post. After a fair bit of fettling to both battery and clamp I could get a really sound fit and the clamp bolt is tight and not strangled.

Just saying LOL
