Van conversion

They are only about 1/4" thick, and were obviously used for packing. I'm tempted to shape them, and stick them on the back doors where the windows would be if I had any. I could stick a bit of reflectix on the top as well. I've noticed that sometimes I get a bit of condensation there. It probably won't contribute much to heat insulation, but it seems a shame to waste them.

If it helps you with insulation or lessening condensation then do it.
Be prepared for little white balls all over the place though

I've already got little white balls from putting the sheets in the back of the van. :)

Your post has given me an idea. Would it be best to stick the Reflectix to the polystyrene first, and then glue the assembly to the metal. Maybe it would be sensible to put a bit of duct tape round the edge as well.

If you have enough of them, you could do the whole ceiling, then fit edge coving to finish off, oh and mind your head on gold chandelier on the way in:LOL:
Get some Party 4 beer, or Ind Coope Long Life, and wey hey! you can have a party, just like we did in the 70's.
Ah memories(y):giggle:
best wishes.

PS: seriously now, I wouldnt fit polystyrene tiles in the van, try putting a match to one stand back and watch what happens, they burn & are toxic.
Top Tip for you, if you go round the back of the likes of B&Q or a builders merchants you may well find some Cellotex which normally comes in 8x4 sheets, but is often damaged so chucked out.
Thats the proper stuff as it has silver heat reflective coatings on both sides, its very lite, and can be easily cut to any shape, for heat proofing PVC vans, you will probably need the 20/25 mm thick stuff as builders use 100mm or 50mm normally.
Good Luck

Good point about the fire risk, it might be coated with fire retardent these days but do you want to take the chance ?
Have you made any firm plans yet to do whats really needed ? ie a proper conversion jobbie ?

Yes I plan to do it next year Oh wait! It's already next year. May sounds good - I may do it then.

I'm in disgrace with B&Q - they caught me filling some water bottles from their outside flower display tap. Well there weren't any flowers there, and I thought it was there for the customers.

I don't have any fire risks in the van, as it is an LDV diesel. Well there is a wood burner and a couple of camping gas stoves, but I don't smoke. :)

How about using them for insulating underneath?

That's a good suggestion, but there are two problems with it. I've only got enough to cover the window space in the rear doors. The other problem is that my van is more of a shed conversion, than a camper conversion. I'm not even sure where the floor is any more. :) I did put a couple of layers of carpet down, and that improved things.

Throughout these threads WB, I see a lot of talk, but not a lot of do. Or, is it me ? :gum:
Afraid he comes over to me , not as a fulltimer, flt, but a sad old man in the back of a van, taking handouts, and when light nights come and people start going out and having to skirt around an old rusty heap he is going to be moved on.
Sorry for being so blunt as I quite like his lifestyle but that is what is going to happen I'm afraid. :(

I'm fairly prolific with my ideas, and I throw them out for opinions and discussion, and it is often well before I have any intention of doing anything. It's a great help in planning and learning about concepts that are new to me. It often becomes apparent that some of my ideas are not practical, or need modification. I'm also aa questor of knowledge. For example, yesterday I ordered a priming bulb for the fuel system on my van, and I might flush out the pipework. I noticed that a bit of dirt has appeared in the inspection window on the filter housing.

I've only recently decided that a variable interior for my van "conversion" is best for me, and this layout is unlikely to suit most mobile home owners. The wood burner, and the sink and hob will need to be fixed, but much of the other stuff could be movable, I'm not sure what the next job should be. The rear door insulation is a nothing job, so I may well do that. I've also got a problem with the passenger door lock, so I may have to look at that. Drain unblocking is another thing to help me through the next couple of months, but that isn't very exciting, so I may not bother to post about that.

Obviously my frivolous posting style gives the wrong impression. I'm happier now than I was when I ran several businesses. Yes, some may consider me to be old, but reading about the health problems that many people across a variety of forums seem to have, I'm not sure that "old" is apposite when applied to me.

I find the handouts extremely embarrassing, and they are not essential to my well being. In many ways, I wish that they were not offered, but it seems churlish not to accept them. I guess I'm projecting the wrong image, but the bonus side is that I do not get moved on, and some locations seem to regard me as beneficial.

The van is mechanically sound, and I've probably spent £2,000 or so to ensure its reliability and efficiency. The chassis is sound and has very little evidence of rust. I have the basic signs of rust in the non-load bearing bodywork, and this seems to be common to most LDV convoys. There are numerous videos about the treatment of this. I don't have problems with interpersonal communications, and have the opportunities of an active social life. However, as you guys may have noticed, I'm politically incorrect, and I don't have much patience with people who can't see the changes that are happening in the world at the moment, and how they are being manipulated by the banking elite and the media.
