The title sounds like the start of a football match....more like the Tour de France I must tell you.
Many visitors are currently pitched up and are preparing for the season of greetings, we are semi-grounded due to family stuff, 3 members of @jumartoo's family are here this week for their annual de-frosting.......
Well while we enjoy our family's visit our dear Funster visitors have taken off on various ventures, mainly on two wheels, large packs have been seen grouping (cycling term) and heading off in various directions.....some getting no further than the end of the drive, some doing the full stage....all returning with their heads held high and their tales to tell.
It's so encouraging to see so many out there, making the most of the cool but sunny weather we have just now.. equally encouraging is to see those who don't, can't or won't, enjoying the Spanish winter....nice group here just now....many are returning friends, many are new friends, those that want are off to the local Spanish restaurant with us for Christmas day, that should be a nice treat...no cooking that day, no grouping ( hope spellcheck got that right ) I am sure all will make it to the restaurant, let's hope all make it back.

I must admit I was a bit (lot) jealous when the cyclists set off yesterday and I was grounded with mum making pom-poms :xlaugh: but we sat outside on a warm patio soaking up the sun whilst the intrepid group cycled into a cool wind!

Our Christmas lunch will not be traditional British fare. I have two sample menus that I'll be trawling the happy campers with for their choice. Two years ago we had an excellent day and I hope this year will be the same. At €25 or €30 a head, depending on our choice, I think some of our group will get their money's worth just from the drink (no names mentioned :xrofl:).

Anyone intending to arrive here before Christmas can still join us, just let me know.

Don't know what mean or who you could possibly be referring to. :xsurprised::xgrin:

You have both been missed over the last couple of days, but Chris (Mr Jenben) and I have bravely taken up the rains of navigators, hence why we have come back two different ways from Alhama, accidently on purpose.:xblush:

Looks lovely place. Love the Sierra mountains, we visited Alhambra and Granada area a coupke of years ago. We had all intentions of our first winter away in the sun, then downsized and bought a wrecked house in October so neck deep in building work. I shall enjoy reading all the threads and dream of joining you all next year.

Interesting Martin,

What is the plan? Tell me about your fishing desires?

To be more productive for a start, the overfished Med is quite a challenge.....local reserviors also....looking ahead to your visit for a bit of company at the waters edge.

He wants to catch something........anything! Personally I think he is using the wrong brand of spam.

When I was a kid, we used Spam as a bait to catch Barbel (a fresh water fish). Worked a treat

The problem in Spain, is they are not so good at the catch and release idea. Stocks have been depleted by 'fish for the pot.' I have even seen them catching tiddlers in marina's and taking them home to eat. :(

Luncheon meat is still used during summer months for Carp and Barbel. Unfortunately it also attracts Eels - I'm not a fan of Eels.
I love eating smoked eel

Have you ever tried it?

I used to like jellied eel, with day old stale bread , a couple of quick pints, first, they were the days..

Don't mind eating it as a smoked pate. But if you are unfortunate enough to catch one, they will wrap themselves around your forearm and leave you covered in slime.

In my younger days I was taken by French relatives to a restaurant in the heart of the Vendee marshes which specialised in eel cuisine. Every starter and main course on the menu was eel-based. Not sure about the desserts but by then I was eeled-out.

True, but may I add that in some regions of Spain fishing licence applicants are required to take part in a course followed by an exam....it is intended to prevent small catches being taken and also the general welfare of the catch. Here in Murcia I did not need too, but obtaining 2 types of licence was required...1 Fresh water and 1 Shore.
no good casting your hook here Martin, you wont catch anything

Very quick to spot that one. ?
