car ferry on route fom Patras to Ancona is on fire, it's all over the news this morning, fire apparently broken out on car deck...this a popular route with motorhomers travelling to Greek pelopenese and beyond. Rescue boats can't get near due to poor weather. Fire spreading and explosions all the time probably due to fuel tanks going up.....a very worrying situation! Looks like all travel has been severely hit this Christmas


Travel safely! And oh! maybe a timely reminder to isolate gas and not to leave fridges on on ferries.......

Oh gawd.. poor sods.. Better not let Woman see this.. she is extremely nervous about ferry crossing as it is ( and she will not use the chunnel, so we could end up UK bound if I am not careful !)

give me tunnel any day! english channel one of the most congested going....you're only under for about 20 minutes odd, anything goes wrong you can walk out via service tunnel. does she not use the tube either....

If it is any consolation this incident are few and far between incident's and odds of being involved in one are very slim
every thing need to be put in to perspective you more chance of dying Frome food posing than being involved in such incidents

There's a photo on the BBC News website of people in the water hanging onto a bouyancy aid - that's not good at all. If they get away with no casualties it'll be a miracle.

We were on the Greek ferry a couple of years ago and the Motorhomes are on the top deck where you sleep in your van overnight, must be so very frightening, I hope everyone gets off safely.

one confirmed death I believe..anyone goes in that freezing water will be lucky to survive the shock....

a lot of people 140 + I think ? spent a nervous night on decks before being taken off this morning....

This boat was used by LD lines on the Gijon-St.Nazaire route which we used in May this year, not 100% sure but I think it was also used on the short lived Poole-Santander route. Previously named Scintu.
