summer tour to Italy: we always end up at Fornella on lake Garda. We are thinking of the black forest? as heading to Bad Walsee to visit Carthago city and Hymer factory on the way (late July) Then stopping for a few days cycling at Lindau.

Zip through Switzerland, visit Lago Maggiore & lago d'iselo ( did Como last year)

What i'm looking for is campsite recommendations for areas mentioned plus places not to miss.

basically visiting the 4 lakes in Italy where we honeymooned 25 years ago  (before you say what a romantic......God! if only I could have those years back!!!!)

Lake Garda:

The Camper van (only) stop at Torbole is good for looking round that bit, but I think the duration of stay is limited. Campsite type pitches but no pesky tents or caravans.
Tons of sites in the south east part of the lake below Lazise, mostly with all the trimmings. A more straightforward site (including a lower cost option of parking aire-style on hard standing near the entrance) is Camping Amici di Lazise, which is next to the Aqua Paradise Water Park (and others) and is on the free shuttle bus route to Gardaland. There's also an eat all you can Hard Rock Cafe type diner within walking distance - interesting in that all the pop music featured is Italian. The campsite has a modest sized pool for cooling down in.

Personally I think Aqua Paradise is not to be missed as it is mental. Crazy River is one of my all-time favourite park rides, and I've done a few. Beats the crap out of Florida. Gardaland is on a par with Alton Towers, and if you don't mind hanging upside down, be sure to go on Sequoia Adventure.

Riva del Garda is worth some of your time - by bike from the camper stop at Torbole is a good way to see it. If you're feeling idle you can pay for a truck to cart you and your bike up the nearest mountain road then freewheel all the way back down.

Thanks!:)

Has anyone done this route trough Switzerland please and are there any major delays like the route we normally take west of this one through Gotthard tunnel?

anymore recommendations for black forest please? leave next week and this part of trip not sorted..may well just suck it and see if nowhere to aim for recommended

We're following a similar route.

Strasbourg/Constance/Fussen/Bad Waldsee/Innsbruck/towards Salzberg/Ca'savio(Venice)/maybe south towards Tuscany/Rome or west to Guarda returning through France.

We've got nothing planned for Black Forest, assuming that there will be many opportunities and don't want to be tied to a specific site - can't say that I've found a 'must visit' site yet...

have been recommended a site called camping Langenwald. That will give us somewhere to head for..... from there just wind our way down toward Constance....

Thanks for this, looks good. Sometimes a good hike from the campsite can turn into the best of days...

Will add to my favorites list - always good to have a back up plan (y)

Roughly en route:

Stop on Neckar and visit Heidelberg.
Visit Fussen and/or Garmisch Partenkirchen, the latter is a superb demonstration of German opulence and a surprise on the Yank front.

Recently returned from trip to see family Germany from home in Spain via Switzerland, Black Forest, Weimar, then back down to Meersburg/Lindau on Lake Constance. From there we followed your planned route south as far as Locarno but we went down the north side of Lake Maggiore to Baveno. We stayed 3 nights at Camping Village Parisi and were very happy with the site and services provided. A trip out to tour the palace and gardens on Isola Bella is an absolute must while you are there.

We did spend a morning in Bad Waldsee and it was delightful. Can't advise on overnight stops there, unfortunately.

At the southern end of the Black Forest, we spent 2 nights on the stellplatz at Bad-Sackingen. Details from the Bord Atlas for Germany:

Reisemobilstellplatz Am Rheinufer (Sitecode: 272)

For Meersburg, we stayed here: Alte Brennerei, Riedetsweilerstrasse 5,
88719 Stetten. Again, Bord Atlas for details. Good value, good facilities, 15 mins bike ride to Meersburg.

We also stayed one night on Lake Titisee in Camping Bankenhof, again - very happy with the site and location.

Eberbach on the River Neckar was another nice find - stellplatz or camp site by the river. Not far from the Air Museum here:

We didn't have time to visit but one for the future. :)

Enjoy your travels and don't forget the free use of trains and buses for those staying on Black Forest stellplatz, such as the one at Bad-Sackingen.

thanks very much...know the lakes real well have been going for 25 years mainly German bit needed help with.. which you have, some useful stuff there:)

and yes have done the islands boat trips including Isola Bella!. its def worth bumping threads as more people see it.

Funsters interested in stellplatz in Germany might find this link useful, I posted it on Fun the other day but many might have missed it. The site has many videos and details of stellplatz in the Black Forest and Lake Constance areas.

we leave this week on eurotunnel as per usual. heading toll free towards black forest via Luxembourg (cheap fuel) Strasbourg. heading to a recommended campsite camping Langenwald. From there meandering across Black forest to Carthago City, then Hymer factory nearby to have a look at some new vans.

Next Lindau on lake Constance for a few days before heading down through Lichtenstein/Switzerland (toll) to Italy...never been down the east side of Switzerland before. Then staying at a few lakes on the way to lake Iselo for 4 nights at camping Covelo. Finally camping Fornella on lake Garda. to meet up with family and friends for 10 nights. then a quick dash back

Do you mean Camping Park Lindau was full?
Eddie

Absolutely heaving. As was the town. There is an small stellplatz just outside the camp but you pay the camp and on the lanes towards Lindau there were many places you could park in an emergency.
