I am fortunate that the storage my van is in is only 15 mins walk across fields with public footpaths from the village where I live, and on the odd occasion whilst walking the dog I check up on it.
It is parked backing on to 20 ft tall conifer hedging which offers it protection in winter however at the moment there are pigeons nesting all along it (about 100 meters)
There are approx 700 MHs and caravans in the complex, but they all decide to sit on my awning rail, with their backsides facing outwards and dump from the roof of the van to the bottom ?the van is only 4 months old.
I have asked for a move but as you would expect at this time the place is full and they have told me I’ll get the next vacancy.
Am I right in thinking the habitation area paint membrane is different to the paint on the cab area? And would the droppings cause damage to the surface?
I am thinking of taking the dog for a walk with a small back pack with a washing brush and a cpl of spray bottles inside to keep on top of it or do I not need to fret as much and the hab paintwork will be ok?

Or what about a fake bird of pray?

That is what my local bowling green uses. Shocked me the first time I spotted it.

I'd run a strip of adhesive tape across with drawing pins inserted or run a line of string or wire above the 'sitting' area.

That is achievable ?.....if I put string with a bits of tinfoil on to make a bit of noise corner to corner both sides that could do it.

I know you do not want to open the awning but if it was opened a little would it deflect the sh*t? If so can you fix something to the closed awning (rail) that would protect you van?

They need to be moved---pigeons c--p a lot and it will rot anything.Probably a sheet of visqueen plastic on top of van ?

boat owners have the same issue with Gulls ... some use old CD's strung on a line just above the perch points seems the flashing and the vibration makes it difficult for them to land and stay put.

whatever you do the bird poo needs cleaning off asap it will damage the paintwork....

The bus garage I worked in was a haven for pigeons. They used to use the asbestos heating pipe insulation for nesting material. A friend of the Forman was registered as a pest controller so he called in one evening.
He had a Harris Hawk in his Landrover. He put a perch in the middle of the workshop but left Hawk tethered. The affect was amazing. There were pigeons flying into windows and the closed main door. He followed this by picking off the rest with a rifle. Apparently they are worse carriers of flees than rats.
We had the mis fortune to be pitched under a tree full of pigeons in France with our Duetto. I managed to wash the worst of at the time but by the time we got home and pressure washed it but there was always a patch on that corner of the roof.

The best solution is an air rifle, then you can turn the pigeons into dinner, thereby keeping the motor home clean and the larder full, definitely a win, win situation. :giggle:

One of these attached to the van some where ?

I put two of these kites on the roof of a client who had real bad problems with pigeons = Problem solved.
A plastic "static" hawk is no good as the birds get used to them (like a scarecrow) A "flying" hawk produces terror into any bird. The image of a predatory hawk is hard wired into all birds. It works a treat.
I bought mine from here (although they are presently closed due to CV) There are loads on Ebay. Don't buy a "cheap" one though..

That’s just reminded me of when I was a kid and we had a couple of days away in Bournemouth.

I was bought an old fashioned single string kite.
It was a Golden Eagle or similar.

Scared all the gulls away for a good distance around ?

I may have a solution now as the owner of the site has said I can go on even though they have locked it down to stop people driving to it, and clean it down. He has kindly given me access to a tap which I can fill a bucket of water from. My better half Ruth has had a day off today (frontline NHS sister) and we walked over with the dog and half an hour later the sides of the van are gleaming again ? she is off next Sunday so it will our weekly event we can look forward to ?I’ve posted a few pics to give you an idea of what they are up to.(God knows what the roof is like?

They have the plastic hawk kites at Eurotunnel terminal IIRC so must be good

You could try some "bird hum wire" it's a plastic wire similar to strummer wire but is designed for moored boats to discourage birds. Any good Chandler will have it and it's cheap and discreet too.
Oh, and it does work, on boats soni cant see why it wont work on a van
