I'm planning to fit a box under the van for a spare toilet cassette. Where I want to fit it is below the Truma combi. This is a view from below:

The tube protruding down ( bottom of pic) is the drain valve from the boiler. Is the wire a temperature sensor to let the Truma know when it's near freezing and dump the water?

I'd have thought it would sense the inside temperature, doesn't matter what it is outside. Can't make the photo out very well ?

The way it's been fitted it doesn't look original. Certainly nothing to do with the Truma.

Do you have outside temperature display on the panel? and if so try putting an ice cube on the "sensor?" and see what happens, it doesn't look like one though as it would need two wires to it.

Thanks all - don't think it's an earth as the panel it's screwed into isn't metal. Will try the ice cube as I have both internal and external temp on the control panel. I will also have a look in the bottom of the Truma cupboard to see if there is a connection internally...

Looks like a pulled taut earth lead. Some van's do have aluminium thin sheet floor.
Undo one of the retaining clips and see if the tube is a thick wire pulled tight ?
The end of the tube or wire looks like a standard cable terminal with a pop rivet or dome headed screw..

Worked a treat Martin funflair - it's the external temp sensor: reading on the panel was external 15C (internal 20C) applied ice cube and it fell to 3.5C.
But I guess you are right Richard and Ann - it will be the internal temp that would trigger the dump valve
At least I know I should leave it alone and not impair air flow around it too much when I fit the box.
Thanks all
Paddy

Well I am as surprised as anybody about that but (y) I guess its possibly a rigid thermocouple just sat in a lug so it can fasten down.

I would have thought that you should be able to release the sensor head and wire and reposition it within the radius of where it enters through the floor which may give you space to position your spare toilet cassette box.

Agree looks just like the Schaudt - makes sense being a Hymer. I'm wary of trying to reposition it as being 13 years old I suspect that it is a bit brittle

Very poor photo, but looks like a earth straps from the body side

It's definitely a temperature sensor (read the post :giggle: ) and yes, sorry about that photo  !

Martin beat me to it
