Is it only me that is having trouble getting fuel from these French and Spanish diesel pumps. Some have touch screens that my fingers don't seem to work on others seem to be made for people who have intelect way beyond the ordinary man, or is it me? I know what my partner thinks by the looks I get.

I suggest you let your partner try next time.
I've had some interesting interactions with continental fuel pumps, especially the unmanned ones 🤬🤬🤬

Obviously they’re not ‘fool’ pumps then…….. ;)

Yep it's only you, got back from 6½ weeks in Spain a couple of weeks ago. No problems anywhere & got the 30 cent discount by paying with Mastercard at Cepas.

Well I could not believe that I helped a German couple in Belgium by telling them how to work the prepaid pumps at the service station😁😁😁

Might add I have pulled into a service station and drove off before without fuel as I lost the plot with trying to work out payment😁😁

I always see to have problems with anything self service, fuel pumps, self service checkouts, automatic toll booths and I try to avoid them at all cost as know I’m going to get a message saying wait for an attendant or call this number…..
Even my key fob for the barrier at work won’t work for me but give it to someone else and it’s fine. Must be some sort of electric static in me that freaks the systems, tend to find even a watch will stop working after a short while.

Good job it doesn’t stop me using the pad or I’d be doomed.

I converted to unmanned pumps during covid. I found most have a language converter (group of flags) well they do in the Baltics. I can buy fuel in Estonian, Latvian, Russian and English here.

As I travel south and west the languages change but almost always there is the world international language available (which I speak).

Also great for weight loss as cant also buy coke and a hot dog, some chips, an ice cream and a sticky bun for later.

It’s another one of those jobs for me. Most are ok but you do get the odd one that you put your card in and hope for the best.

Just wait until you come across a petrol station that needs you to buy a ticket for a preset amount at a pay station then type the code into the display on the machine, then select the pump, then realise that the lpg pump is not listed, then find the right pump for the lpg, then retry the code, then get told it’s already been used, then try to speak to a human, then get lucky and find it’s been reset and you can use the code, then find you can’t find your lpg adapter, then find the pump won’t reach, then find that the pump button is on the other side and somebody has parked their Citroen to block it, then eventually find you didnt need very much lpg anyway but you can’t get any change from your original ticket purchase guesstimate - ah the joys

I don't think there is any language barrier to those.

We find that when you put your card in it usually automatically offers you the option to have the instructions in English.

On our last visit we only had one problem in a supermarket station in rural France which simply did not accept any of our cards. Caused chaos as we had to back out but their loss not ours.

Never mind the fuel pumps, when I'm on the road, I use a tablet and, at times, it and my finger are incompatible especially when I want to 'like' something and it hits a completely different emoji. What must people think? 😢

I'm in France just now and the card readers on the pumps are identical to the ones at home in Scotland. So are the fuel prices.

A few years ago I filled my bike up in a French supermarket pump which was some distance from the actual supermarket. To pay you were funnelled between concrete barriers to a little kiosk where to my embarrassment found you could only pay with a supermarket card. Big queue had to back up

Yep, must be you. Not had any trouble over the the years.😊

Being a techno fob? i have no issues...................................he lied.
And i find they are all different, not the same. Used at least 5 in the last week alone, all different. Some pay at the pump, some go inside first and pay a given amount (how much do you know is going to go in) some pay by card inside after feuling. So many permutations.

I'm of an age where I stick to the pumps where I can read all of the instructions, just a pity they're all in the UK! 😢

I can read the instructions but any help with the paying would be appreciated? 😀

Currently in NI and the other day did a fill at an unattended pump. First had to insert card then select maximum amount. £20, £40, £60, £80, £100. You can see where this is going. Had to do "rinse and repeat" to get a full tank. Ouch! 😥

Whatever amount you select you will only be charged for the amount you actually put in.
So if you select £100 and only use £50 you'll be only charged £50.
