Irish Ferries to and from Ireland

Thinking about crossing over, looked at Ferry Prices!! An arm and a leg and a kidney...

Suggestions as to best value crossings, open to suggestions..

Just looked thought not too bad then realised its one way only! Why is the return (220-235)-dearer than outbound (190-225)

We crossed Dover to Calais with Irish Ferries last week. Have used Eurotunnel for years and really did not want to go back to the ferry but the cost was the deciding factor. Booked on the 11.05 from Dover, arrived in port around 9.10am and they put us on the 9.30 departure with no extra cost. Boat was not full, plenty of seat and a good crossing, will use again

Midweek crossings at silly o'clock clock are cheapest. Although fares aren't discounted the Tesco vouchers when tripling up made it just about palatable to get into Ireland and back, but that deal ends. Even with my short van the fares are staggering so no wonder the ferry wasn't close to full.

Based in Dunlado we use Stena Liverpool (Birkenhead) to Belfast then pop round to Carrickfergus for the first night.

It's a long way - but even going the shortest sailing from Scotland still seems no cheaper.
Well worth it though - it is lovely

Stena Holyhead Dublin was cheapest for us last weekend from Lincs to west of Northern Ireland but depends on where you're travelling to/from in GB & Ireland

It's not as lovely as France and the weather is mostly disappointing at best. Its expensive to get there and expensive when you are there and expensive to get back. Not worth it.

Not sure if this is tongue in cheek, regardless, IMO a stunning place to visit, weather can't do much about so I always book last minute in line with forecast, appreciate not all can do that.
On a separate note, Cairnryan is usually the cheapest and shortest, however, I specifically book Holyhead and times to match Ulysses sailing as I suffer from seasickness, this ship is huge and crossings to date have been painless.

Ha Ha. Yes it was. Being serious though. Ireland is stunning. It's expensive to get there though. Like anywhere else it has to compete. We have been a few times so don't feel the need to go back year on year. Unlike France and Spain where we would go back every year for ever.

Around £161 for sub 8metres and 2 over 65. If booked with CCC then it's 10% off and flexi fare instead of standard. One way only fare.

I don’t actually remember my time in Ireland.

I haven’t been back since but I will once the restraining order expires.
