I'm a newbie
Where do people normally install invertors?

Yep, mine is right next to my 3 leisure batteries.
The reason is to keep the volt drop to a minimum a 1000 watt inverter will draw around 90 amps at 12v.

Yep.. Close to the batteries to keep loss down.

If you need to run further away then use a mains cable / extension to where you need the socket (y)

No, just a bit of noise when the fan cuts in if they are running at high power.

What size are you fitting & for what use?

Not sure if you can see photo. But it's a 1500/6000W Use for tv, satalite, hairdryer.

Which version have you bought how many watts?
Is it pure sine wave or modified sine wave?

That doesn't make sense normally peak power is twice the continuous power and is best ignored as cheap inverters can never deliver it.
Unless a pure sine wave output don't run anything electronic from it.

If you only have standard batteries to run 1500 watts you will need a battery bank of 675ah. For short term use could get away with 450ah
TV won't be a problem but much better to use 12v TV & sat receiver.
That inverter will probably draw about 2 amps in standby and on top of any load.

Looks like I've messed up a purchased wrong 1 then.

A decent pure sine wave inverter is usually a few hundred £, I think yours might have been less than £50😉

If you want a decent one probably Victron they have very low standby current. Their 1000va (800 watt) is about £350 bigger ones a lot more.
You can get cheap 1500 watt ones on ebay for under £200 but it's pot luck how good they are.

would the Victron 1 you mentioned be enough for a 24,inch tv and satellite?

Way OTT for just those you probably only need about 150 - 200 watt.
Should say the power requirements on the units.

I thought it was ott too. Think listened to too many people and got confused. I was going to buy a 500/600 watt. Will try and sell and get another 1.
