I'd check out what the .gov site has to say here:

Note it does state "may"!:giggle:

Check which type of IDP you need

You may need one or more international driving permits (IDPs), as well as your UK driving licence to drive in an EU or EEA country.

There are 3 types of IDP:

  • 1926 IDP
  • 1949 IDP
  • 1968 IDP

The type of IDP you need depends on the country you will be driving in.

You may need more than one IDP. For example, when driving through France (1968 IDP) to Andorra (1949 IDP).

Thanks for replys all I need know we are not fully out till 31 December 2020 do I need IDP January till April this year.

You haven’t said which country you are going to so I don’t really think you can expect anyone to give you any more info without you at least doing that. You’ve already been given good advice . It also depends on whether we get a deal or not at the end of Jan 2020. There’s still a small risk of a no deal Brexit.

Nothing changes with the status quo in the E.U. until at least end of 2020 and by July-ish will know if the transition period is going to be extended further or if our lord and master Jedi, obiwan Boris I fu**ed Corbyn good and proper , will hold firm on his promise. Plenty of time and plenty of notice will be given of any hard and fast changes before they happen.

You won’t need one for Spain unless staying over 6 months ?

What if the Withdrawal Agreement doesn't get signed before February? Doesn't that mean we bomb out?

nope; we stay as we are.
its been agreed in principle by all EU countries and now UK parliament so ant see any reason to bomb out as you put it..

It -probably- will be signed. But the EU aren't entirely happy with the WA Act that was passed in parliament contradicting the WA that had previously been agreed in principle in several areas. I'd make sure I had the relevent international driver's licenses to be sure.

Chill! If one is needed whilst away I can't see foreign governments imprisoning anyone without.
If it transpires that you need one before you go it takes ten minutes to get one at a Post Office.

Oh for heaven's sake. Why worry.?
Just get one, two or three. - depending on your destinations - then all will be covered and you need not worry for 3 years.

Oh bliss...........if only all that was needed for the next 3 years was to have 3 IDP

Insurance companies wanting a green card to visit foreign countries and breakdown extra

Roaming charges for calls and data in Europe (only 3 have declared no increases)

What about EHIC

But, of course, some people knew exactly what they were voting for, so can perhaps enlighten us.

I looked at the goverment website and done a check for France and Spain. It said France you need one no matter how long you are there and you need one for Spain in August 2020 but if memory is correct only if you are staying over so many months. I also had an email from Comfort insurance telling me that I needed a green card after Jan 31at I got the French one only takes 10 mins and £5.50

Oh no , panic, the end of the world is nigh:eek::eek::eek:

Recently I had a Norwegian friend staying with me and was surprised to see he had a driver's licence exactly like ours and he didn't need any permits to drive here and he said he drives all over Europe and doesn't have any permits. Seeing as Norway isn't in the EC why is it he doesn't need a permit?

From Wiki

The European driving licence is a driving licence which replaced the various driving licence styles formerly in use in the member states of the European Economic Area (EEA) (all 28 EU member states as well as 3 EFTA member states; Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway).
