Could anyone please tell me if internal covers ie press on suction type for the large rrflight in my Autotrail? The internal measurements are approx 600 x 400 mm.I know they are commonly called Hekis, but I can’t see any manufacturer part name or number on it.Thank you.

You could always pop down to Screwfix and buy a 10m x 1m roll of YBS 3mm insulation.

If you want it thicker than 3mm then just stick multiple sheets together to make it tip-top cosy.

If your apperture is 600mm x 400mm then cut a 615mm x 415mm square of YBS as you can then bung it up tightly into the roof light, avoiding any gaps; i.e. since it's foil based and therefore highly pliable stuff.

A roll costs £19.99 and we've used it on many MoHo applications.

All the best,

Andrew

Easy to make, an alternative is to buy the cheap winter car windscreen covers. They can be cut up, tape the edges and serve as good heat reflectors, insulators.

I just got some of the cheap silver foil bubble rap insulation, stuck 4 layers together with double sided tape and then cutting to size to fit.
It's held in place by sliding closed the blind. Done the same for our other 2 roof light, but as they have fan cassettes in them I could only get 2 layers stuck together in.
Acts as sound insulation as well.

I made some for our campers/mhs out of some old internal windscreen covers, they work a treat. I also made some for the side windows too from thinner silver sided stiff bubble-wrap type stuff.

One word of warning, do NOT leave them on for long periods of time in hot weather as they can case a lot of heat to build up in the space between them and the window/roof vent cover and 'could' cause damage/warping etc, also in winter make sure you remove them occasionally to let any moisture escape and air to circulate.

I think Van Comfort do most size's, never used them so can't comment on them.

Foil backed foam camping mats from eBay stuck in layers

Do these insulated roof light covers make much difference? I was considering making my own.

I did exactly that and works very well especially in winter .

From experience I would say worth it. I made a set for the roof lights and the side windows by our beds. We also have a lightweight full length curtain held in place by poppers that go behind our seats and seals out the dashboard area. That seems to make a huge difference to the internal temperature.

If it's cold enough to need them, it's too cold for me!!!!!!!!!!!! :roflmto:

The silver YBS 3mm sheeting is great for keeping the sun out too - it works a treat.

We had some offcuts of 25mm Celotex insulation board. Cut them so that they were just the right size to fit snugly into the opening, bound the cut edge with matching gaffer tape.

Offer them up into the opening and pull the blackout blind across to keep them there.

Definitely make a lot of difference, especially as some rooflights don't have the 'sealing' strips in them so you get air in through them all the time so in winter the can make the MH inside quite cold!

Yes they do in the depths of winter, but remember you really could do with some ventilation especially if you have gas.

Just collected a roll from Toolstation. Very cheap. Scissors out later.

I love the stuff.

Get the scissors out and a bit of sticky tape and it's Blue Peter all over again.::bigsmile:

If you're gonna use tape for the edges make sure you get some that isn't affected by heat otherwise when the screen gets hot the tape will go sticky ... I made the mistake of using some cheap gaffer tape and it was a pig to remove and replace with a better quality one!
