Immingham/Gothenburg Ferry. Anyone done it ?

Had a look at site (as I am interested ) and est for mid May Ducato size MH return with cabin seems about £475 with one passenger (does this include driver as well ?) and can you have seat to cut cost down as cabin is as much as crossing ?

I'm presuming one 'passenger', means the driver.
It looks like they also ship unaccompanied trailers as well.

But would a Moho be classed as 'freight' ?

From DFDS website:
Due to UKBF port approval, private passengers are not permitted to be carried through Immingham. This means that we can no longer accept leisure fare paying passengers on the freight routes through Immingham.

All down to lack of border control facilities. Even when you could take a motorhome to Larvik (I think) it cost around £2000, now, as said, no leisure passengers although I imagine you could ship the motorhome as freight and fly to meet it. Much discussed in the past on our website: https://www.facebook.com/groups/RHEGFerry/

No. But I was Chief Engineer, on several back when it was Tor Line. Then we had room for 16 "drivers" in very basic 2 Bed Bunkhouses. Times are changed I would think, but they are not true passenger vessels as far as I am Aware?. The DFDS website, states they do not have facilities for Passengers Viz:-

""DFDS freight port of Immingham can accept commercial freight drivers with their loads. Due to UKBF port approval, private passengers are not permitted to be carried through Immingham. This means that we can no longer accept leisure fare paying passengers on the freight routes through Immingham. Leisure passengers should refer to our passenger ferries section on the website for details on our passenger services.""

As, and example. This vessel is one of those used on the Service?.

(Olley, got in before me!.)

I've found out rock'n'roll tour busses (which are in effect large motorhomes) have done this trip before with driver and reserve driver (but not band/road crew)

Never worked out of Felixstowe, But the wife and 2 boys came back from Gothenburg on the Tor Scandinavia, with our car. We had had Christmas on the Tor Nerlandia, and she was destined to go to Copenhagen to be dry docked and surveyed prior to being sold. So wife and kids had to be offloaded in Gothenburg and travel back, one of the worst crossings that winter too! they docked 14 hours late, and then had to drive back to Hull. That was when the "Winston Churchill" ran aground attempting to dock at Esberg I think?. My time was spent on the Freight Ro-Ro`s.

With a Motorhome ?
Hi.
No,sorry. I thought the " 50/- suit "..( Overalls ) would have been a clue. In a Blue and Rust coloured Artic.
It was in reply to PeteH 's post...Basic...?(y)
Tea Bag

Immingham is the port with the largest amount of tonnage exported to main land Europe in the U.K. this is in the form of thousands of new cars and container lorries.
Hull is just the other side of the estuary, why not try that crossing?

Look at thread title again.

It is the route to Gothenburg. No such route from Hull.

I took one of the last Harwich-Esbjerg crossings before the EU banned those vessels!

. . . before DFDS decided the cost of complying with the new emission regulations, the loss of duty free sales some years earlier and reduced passenger numbers, mainly due to low cost flights, left the route nonviable. It didn't stop them adding fuel filters while it was used in the Baltic before being leased to Brittany Ferries as the Baie de Seine, The Ark Project made the loss more palatable for them.

I've been looking at Ferry option between UK --> Scandinavia further:

The most informative web site I have found is this one
https://www.freightlink.co.uk/

Whilst there are number of Freight RoRo routes out of Imingham to Norway, Sweden and Denmark.
As we know there are no dedicated Passenger RoRo routes any more.

So I had a go at booking a 'van' with driver on the route.
(Cost is just over a grand one way)

The question then gets asked is 'how many windows' ?
The answer is a motor-home has too many!

What is the difference between a passenger booking and a freight booking?
Passenger, or tourist, bookings are generally classed as people travelling on holiday. A freight booking must be made for all Commercial Vehicles designed for the purpose of carrying goods for hire and reward or other commercial practices.
If you pay road tax as a Commercial Vehicles, you will have to travel as FREIGHT. This includes Light Commercial Vehicles (LCV) – Vans with no side windows.
Ferry operators are clamping down on Commercial Vehicles travelling on passenger tickets. Some are even imposing a “spot fine” on some routes, forcing the vehicle to re-book on a freight booking. These "window rates" are usually very high in comparison to the bulk discounted rates we can offer you

However: Horse boxes (without horses) and passenger coaches (without passengers) are both accepted.

Hello Phil, was you saying you knew a bit about crossing between Immingham and Gothenbourg? Would it be possible that i could ask you a few questions about it? I'm a new member and I'm sure how you direct message or if I'm allowed to?

It’s a shame the Newcastle - Norway - Sweden ferry was stopped.
Did that crossing back in the 80s,,think it was Newcastle Gothenburg,,BUSBY.
