just won't come out! Tried all sorts of wiggling and jiggling manoeuvres, turning the wheel, etc but the bugger won't come out!
2005 fiat Ducato, on burstner elegance.
Not overly worried right now, can set alarm and immobiliser when we leave her ( on a site) and will get it looked at by an auto professional when we get back to uk next week, but short of squirting WD40 and waiting till tomorrow to try agin, any bright ideas?
Not gonna force it, rather risk and waiit than be stuck !!!

I had that happen on a Citroen we had and it was the barrel that had collapsed, they said it was quite common. Might be that .

If it is automatic then it could be something to do with the neutral key release. If it isn't then I have no idea..:)

I had a similar problem with my 2006 Ducato.
It seems the lock and/or key wear. In my case the lock was worn and the key wouldn't let me engage the starter.
I stripped it down and in the end I reassembled it without the steering lock as it didn't look as though I could trust the locking mechanism not to engage when it shouldn't.
The above links may give you a bit more information.

I would - but the steering wheel is on the wrong side for me! Change it over and I'd buy it!

...... As soon as I've sold my house!

Mr David
My steering wheel may be in the wrong side, but the ignition key slides smoothly in and out, like a 1970's porno movie

Had this happen on my Peugot and similarly it was the ignition barrel and needed a new one. Hope you get it fixed OK soon.

Bit of a long shot but just make sure one of the front wheels are not jammed against a kerb or anything it can put feedback up the steering column and jam the lock.

Sounds like a worn barrel it should be OK but I would not remove the key as you might not get it back in had this happen to me and it cause me lots of problems
Leave it it till you get it shorted just emobilis your van
