I’m looking for a solution to keep my motor home cool in this hot weather we are experiencing! Thanks in advance

We are finding that our Maxfan is brilliant. Draws a gentle flow of air through. Cooler air in and hot air out through the roof.

Draws very little power, and on its low setting is very quiet - enough so to leave it running all night.

In this heat and full sun with no shade, you need to keep the blinds closed on the side of the van that’s in the sun .
We use a portable air conditioning unit to keep the motorhome cool In this brutality hot weather. The vent hose goes out through the window and behind the silver screen . It’s been lovely and cool this weekend with this on .

Use your wind out awning to keep the sun off the side of the van. Works well for us, just spent a few days in Kirkcudbright with temperatures over 28C and it stayed comfortable in the van.

If you are on a pitch with a water supply, attach your hose and wet down the van, especially the roof.

If you can get water to pool on the roof, all the better.

Latent heat of evaporation will help a little, and free.

For yourself, wet a towel and lie under it, in front of a fan, the same principle will cool you.

If you are on the move, wear cotton clothes, shower in them, let the worst drain off and then just drive in them, as you drive again as they dry you will be cooled.

Minimalist, a cotton hat, soak it and wear it. Your brains will be cooled.

Your running two threads on this subject! As you only have 3 replies so far on the other thread it makes sense to delete it don't you think ?

Open the windows a tad and the roof vents, they will act like a chimney and funnel air through, also pull down the blinds to reflect the sun. Never had a problem this way and all without Aircon. The canopy suggestion is also a good idea.

Having dogs I have various things I do:
  • Insulated screens on the front windscreen and cab side windows - external are better as they prevent the heat getting in through the glass in the first place, Remis type blinds don't stop much heat on their own.

  • Insulated pads for the roof vents which are attached with suckers so they can be opened and can also be suitably positioned (eg hanging down if necessary) to prevent the sun streaming in.

  • Insulated 'bubble' screens for the side windows (the stuff you use behind radiators etc), they are made to fit each window and held in place with the closed blind, alternatively put suckers on them and fit to the open windows, window blinds don't stop a lot of heat so of limited benefit on their own.

  • Extending the fixed awning to reduce the amount of sun that hits the van (obviously depends on if you can extend it and/or its position in relation to the sun).

  • Keep the windows/doors closed on the sunniest side as that will allow the heat to get in even if they are shaded - better to have those out of the sun open to let the hopefully cooler air in.

  • If pets are too warm wet a microfibre towel then partially wring it out and place it round the dog - this will cool the dog as well as draw the heat out due to evaporation - just keep regularly wetting it (a sprayer is ideal) (I made my own cooler jackets with some cheap microfibre towels).

A 12 volt fan works really well. We leave the dog and she’s lovely and cool when we return.
What's the dog doing on your bed :Eeek: (yes I recognised the curtains/corner!)

Seriously, what fan is that as it looks a good size for over the bed so could do to get one myself.

It’s a Heller 12 volt fan. I have it on all night when it’s hot like now and it’s bliss. The dog has her own fan over her bed 😎🐶.

This weekend in Madrid we've been using the 50w electric fan on swivel mode connected to the inverter. It's a very low load you can run day and night in the summer

Also, If you can get a breeze blowing through the van it helps a lot (park near a lake or the sea). We had both garage doors open with a home made mozzie screen to keep any flies out

Minxy Girl do you have screens that fit well on the front windscreen? Do they take up much room when stored?
