...... after a break, brought on late last year when dad’s illness took a deeper bite out of his health, his care having to be ramped up massively and mum ending up in hospital briefly with an infection.

We thought mum was on the mend, after her release, so it took us all by surprise when she passed away totally unexpectedly on Boxing Day.

It seemed we’d barely got mum’s funeral out of the way, when only 7 weeks after her passing, dad gave up his fight too. I was with him and holding his hand when he took his last breath, which along with seeing the pain and anguish leaving his face, has been a source of comfort to me.

It’s been a horrendous start to 2019 and coming to terms with losing both parents so close together has been difficult for our family, but the strength and support given by a handful of friends has helped us reach this point, still smiling and looking forward to the future.

I’ve planned a few trips away in the van, keen to get the kayak back on the water and hoping to get back socially to where I was last year, as well as catching up with the forum news.

Sorry to hear about your sad news. Now it's onwards and up in your van, enjoy getting back on the road/in the water.

That was a sad period, but as you have already recognised a relief for your Dad in particular to be feee of his pains

It seems wrong to ‘like’ the fact that both parents have died so close together, but the older we get, I am making an assumption they were both in their 80’s and had been together for 50+ of those years. It is sort of sweet that they stay together with no residual loneliness which there might have been for your Dad

Old age isn’t always kind, the lingering poorly conditions of many are not nice for either side of the condition

You have obviously been there for them when needed, you can now remember them without the worries

Heartfelt condolences.
Very hard when your parents go.
They're in a happy place now, so time for you to enjoy your life!

Feeling your pain Ken, I lost both my parents within 5 months & its painful.

Hope the rest of 2019 gets better & a lot more enjoyable.

Robert.

@Kingham Ken as you say not a good start to 2019. Sorry you have lost both parents so quickly and now it’s your turn to get your life back on track.
Enjoy time with friends and getting back out on the water.

Sorry to read this Ken. Lets hope the rest of the year improves.

Ken sorry to hear your sad news and it must have been stressful and very sad .
Take solace that they are together again and now enjoy your adventures again.
I always feel my mum is with us on our adventures as she loved to hear all about our trips and kept a map route daily of where we were in Europe.

Happy and safe travels again.

So Sorry to hear your news a lot to deal with, good though you could see your dad free from pain and they are both together I'm sure they would want you to carry on and enjoy your motorhome /kayaking..
Must admit I have wondered where you were good to have you back

Sorry to hear about your parents, I was with my father when he passed away in October and I was so glad that all the family were in the room also as I hated the thought of him going on his own.

Sorry the last few months have been so rough for you all Ken, hopefully things will only get better from now on. Nice to see you back.

Only thought about you the other day when I saw a Kingham advertised as I'm wondering if one would be more suited to what I might need.
