Hymer Dynamic Line Habitation Door Hinge Excessive Wear

I got a price from Campirama €95, another OUCH!

I took a hinge off and took a photo and dimensioned it. I've contacted one of the hinge manufacturers, now waiting for a quote for getting a Stainless Steel one made, obviously the more I can get made the cheaper they should be so if anyone else is interested please let me know.

Nottingham and Derbyshire to catch up with family then a couple of weeks at Kessingland (just South of Lowestoft) to catch up with Spanish rallying friends then the Norfolk coast for some birding for a couple of weeks. Just sorted a padded envelope in case your supplier would like a new hinge to work from comes complete with rivets and screws. Just give me the word.

Was thinking of joining again and slagging off the hinges and offering a better alternative when I get it sorted.
I also brought it up on Hog some time ago so you could get some interest

The TW influence is no more Lenny and there’s been some very hard hitting criticism of Hymer quality and design issues of late 👍

I thought you said you were going south, that's the far north to me. :giggle:

Reminds me of checking into a hotel in Dundee,
Girl behind me said - I'from down south too.
Me- whereabouts.
Girl- Sunderland.

Oh boy did I have trouble keeping a straight face.

We'd be interested in a couple of hinges, please, Lenny. 👍

OK guys & girls I'm getting somewhere with a stainless steel hinge, had a quote for a small quantity but I need to go back to them to see if they will do one or samples because it's replacing a plastic hinge of a different design I need to make sure it is suitable. It will add to the cost a bit but I don't want to spend a couple of hundred quid and throw them in the bin.

Looking at around £20 - £25 each for hinges made in 304 grade stainless steel a bit cheaper than Hymer at £120.

I think it's worth replacing the garage door ones as well as the hab door so I don't get any future problems.

I would like to start a list of who wants them, I will also start another thread as the plastic hinge is used on all new model Hymers since around 2016 not just the Dynamic line.

I think my main concern would be would be reaction (corrosion to aluminium) with being screwed to the aluminium stiles but wouldn’t think much of a problem?🤔

The only bare aluminium they with contact will be the two pop rivet a coat of silicone grease before fitting the rivets will sort that. all the other areas of contact are painted. The two Torx head screws on the body side that Hymer fit are self tappers screwed into aluminium.

Looks like they are going to do me some samples at a reasonable price so hopefully I can get the final price down a bit.

That’s good Lenny thanks for putting in the research👍 I agree with you on fixing I’m surprised they only use self tappers thought they might have used captive nuts in the stiles?🤔 I suppose the rivets are the stay safe fixing? Crap really ?

It's a Hymer Motorhome what do you expect. :giggle:

Update:-
To speed things along and keep the cost of the samples down they are going to produce a couple of samples in mild steel.
The first quote was for 304 Stainless I asked for 316 (A4) marine grade it will make them slightly dearer.
Also they were quoting for 2.5mm thickness material the plastic ones are 3.5 mm, to produce any thicker than 2.5 will make the knuckle diameter too large. Looking at the door fit it needs to be 3.5mm to keep the door central and the seals fitting so I've asked them to make a pair of 1mm packing plates to suit the hinge.

I would be using a silicon spray from new.

I have come late to this thread - sorry. So I am interested in putting my name down for hinges but cannot find the list Lenny mentions. Can someone point me in the right direction please.

Just give Lenny HB a shout by placing an @ in front of his name he will then get a notification from you 😊

Up date folks, they said 3-4 weeks for sample but a couple of weeks ago they had a major tool outage so I expect with the small quantity I want I'm at the bottom of the queue.
Also I'm away for 4 weeks now, with the Fun mobsters at Stratford at the moment.
