Hymer Dynamic Line Habitation Door Hinge Excessive Wear

Using plastic hinges does seem somewhat absurd, because they wear and no adjustment. Surely a variation of the cast aluminium hinges used on UPVC doors would be much stronger and allow simple adjustment if the door drops etc. If they were bolted through the door with internal spreader plates, they would be far more secure than those currently in common use on motorhomes

If it has dropped it’s a minuscule amount, should it drop by any greater amount it’s going to cause problems opening and especially closing the door as there is no means of lifting it from inside.

If the plastic was wearing it would mushroom on the bottom part. The door would also drift from the frame.
Dorr hinges work by being in tension at top and compression at bottom as they work like a fulcrum . These do not appear to be like that so I say they are as designed.

The mushrooming you describe would depend on the type of plastic composition used the hinges are a very hard compound there is also greyish dust present below and in some cases above the gaps.
From the various photos posted the gaps vary considerably I hardly think they were manufactured like this.

I think a poly plastic but it’s very hard🤔

Well guys I did a brilliant repair on my bottom hinge then disaster struck.

I unbolted the hinge from the door, left it attached to the frame, removed the plastic plug at the bottom then drilled a hole in the top so I could drift the pin out. Reassembled packing out with 4mm SS washers lubricated with silicone grease and reassembled. Worked a treat.

The disaster, unscrewing the top hinge a gust of wind caught the door, broke the bottom hinge and the door landed on the drive. I was very lucky the landed inside down and the only damage was the inner plastic shell unclipped down one side and it clipped back in easily & a few marks on the chrome door pull.
Taken one of the garage door hinges off and fitted it to the hab door for now. just glued the broken hinge with epoxy but I doubt it will hold even on the garage door.
First job Monday try and locate some hinges.

There you are guys easy to repair the hinge but do it on a calm day and get someone to hold the door.

My 2016 has 3 aluminium hinges on hab door.

Ours is 2018 and only two hinges🤔

Might be worth buying a hinge and fitting a third in fact I think I will😊 thanks for the part number Stewart J 😊👍

You could fit it on the door with self tappers.
The originals have a channel cut in the door edge and a aluminium strip locates 3 nuts and it slides up and down a few mm for adjustment.

Thanks for that Lenny my dealer is supplying me with two new hinges as a gesture of goodwill Hymer were not interested.

Just had a look at Hymer's site, looks like they are fitting the plastic hinge to all models from the Exsis to the SL, all have 3 on the hab door now.

My dealer Tyne Valley Motorhomes has come back with a price of 52.05 euros per hinge plus vat on top of that.

Just had a quote from Southdowns, I think they are taking the pee.

Thanks mate I won’t hold my breath anyway I’m researching hinges for alternatives possibly ball bearing type stainless if I find any suitable will post on here😊
I found quite a few companies on line that do custom hinges I was thinking about getting some made probably a lot cheaper than Hymer prices.

If you go down that route let me know and I will have some it would make sense to buy in bigger amounts?😊
