Hi all,
After waiting over 12 months for the above we have been very disappointed with all the small snags that have appeared which you would not expect with a quality van
these are just two we have had there are many more.
Habitation door will not retain in a small breeze door slams shut so cannot use flyscreen picture attached door has the same cheap retainer as fitted to our previous van a "Pilote" any suggestions
Toilet Roll will not rotate in its holder so have made a temp fix picture attached any better ideas ?
The van arrived with heavy duty AL-KO steady legs on the rear which we have removed because we have had a leveling system fitted would anybody be interested in these picture enclosed.
Thanks great site

Our door retaining catches are dodgy one side is prone to break so we tie a tent guy rope on the door and loop it over the door mirror. Not what you are probably wanting on your posh new MH but very practical!

Thanks for that no your right just seen somthing that might work picture enclosed not sure about quality but fitted to Bailey caravans

I’m of the opinion that Hymer started going down the pan when old Erwin gave control over to his kids. They milked it dry and then sold out their Dads beloved empire to Thor Industries (USA).

Burstner, Dethleff, Niesmann+Bischoff and Laika are just a few of the European brands ultimately controlled from Indiana. 🤑🤑🤑

When I had a Hymer I had the same issues with door and bog roll holder. The bog roll holder is a neat idea that doesn’t work.

Brand new Dethleffs, and the hab door has a hard job even opening sometimes, and the cab door has a mind of its own.
Broken slider on one of the kitchen drawers, and lots of internal trim coming unstuck.
Factory fit alarm needed a tweak, but no manual provided to how to do it, or even where it was.
Most confusing was the dealer provided a printed 2020 manual, but this is a 2022 van, so much of the manual did'nt even cover my vans/systems.

A week on, I've fixed most of these things myself, and downloaded the docs for all the systems/chargers/pumps etc, so I now know how most of it should work. I'm happier and I like it very much. My trust in the dealer not so much.

Hi Steve
I must admit the Dealer has been very helpful but it leaves a nasty taste when you
Have to deal with the problems yourself after spending a lot of money for this van
I am able to deal with the defects but would be in a real mess if I was wasn’t the nearest support would be 150 miles away. I have emailed Hymer just waiting for a response

We have the same problems with ours perhaps the germans have different loo paper! On previous vans we have always retained the hab door with a bungee to the drivers door.
We doing exactly the same with our Hymer. Not ideal but it works and protects the fly screen

Hymer's have been hyped up in the UK and people think they are a premium van when they are really just a reasonable mid-range van.
I can put up with the little niggles but is the corrosion on the bodywork that bugs me. Had 3 Hymers all had corrosion problems.

They did use to use a fairly good door retainer that was integrated into the door, the current ones are naff, like everyone else I use a bungee. Just fitted a new door retainer it's a lot better now only need the bungee in strong winds.

As for the bog roll, I used a bit of Speedfit pipe and cut a couple of slots in it so it clips over the side rails.

That’s the conclusion I came to with regards to our toilet roll holder. Works ok if if it’s half a roll.

We also do the same with a couple of bungee cords to keep our door open. I’m sure there’s a reason why HYMER do what they do but I can’t fathom it out.

On our previous Exsis I I drilled a hole through the retainer when door clipped in it and put a thin metal Camping peg in to hold it👍 Worked a treat, have yet to do it on our B678DL🤔
Like that idea👍🏻

There must be something very wrong with me...

A loo roll that doesn't unroll off its holder properly wouldn't ever be anything I would even notice when getting a new van!

As for the hab door not staying open... I solved that with my current Burstner, built on a Fiat Talento, by using a bit of (high quality, Hymer approved) string tied from the door lock to the wing mirror.

JJ

You would on a newish Hymer, you pull on the pape,r the roll pushes against the back of the cabinet and one sheet tears off and then you have to open the cabinet to poke some more through the slot.

We don’t use our holder it’s a pain (in the arse) 😂 I’m still trying to find a place to put a holder that’s not in the way of getting splashed by something 🤣🤣

Works fine after the mod

14 year old hymer still has the crap door retainer, as did my previous Rapido. I just use a bungee. At least I have a proper bog roll holder.

This is funny really. It wasn't long ago everyone was slaging off British motorhomes and singing the praises of Hymer and other German vans.
It seems regardless how much you pay, all motorhomes have issues.

I think they all do but between a poor door retainer and bog roll holder or extensive damp I know which I'd choose

Earlier this year I incurred a £300+ bill for work to rectify a problem. I raised the issue with the dealer and received a refund from Carthago within 2 weeks. All it took was one email with supporting evidence.

Try turning the toilet round.

I removed all the bottom wires from mine works ok now will send a pic to Hyner.

A friend of ours owned a Hymer Aclass and in the 1st few months the engine bonnet came off in his hands as he did checks.Apparantly they are glued on. Had to get back to UK with it strapped down. He soon got rid.Needles to say he went for an Italian brand which he is over the moon with. German quality?
