Spent a few weeks touring Australia and New Zealand about 10 years ago...
Just spent a mad day driving for hours looking for a campsite in this area and everywhere is chocca.
Any tips how to get into a camper park or site ?

It's just been getting busier every year. Some people now book a year in advance !!
Cant offer much advise except to keep trying around midday or move on elsewhere and keep your fingers crossed.

Go south, it is warmer there. Full but warmer.

Drive 100 miles and find a much nicer, quieter place :)

I would pay damn good money to be away from Benidorm and the like.

And yet other people love it! Each to their own I say. ;)

I spent 3 nights up in the mountains, lovely but chilly, 3C at night, i came down to Bennidorm mid week 22C yesterday and faultless.....

Never been here before but i can see why it's popular.

Ok i don't like all day breakfasts and watneys red barrel but a bit of warm sunshine makes a big difference.

You need to move away from the popular areas to have much chance, at this time of year I wouldn't even think of Benidorm etc. unless pre-booked. Or you get lucky - we got the 3 nights at Imperium Alicante we wanted without any fuss - but couldn't extend it as they were fully booked for the next month.

You could try Camping Arena Blanca, they have a car park waiting area?

Cap Blanch at Albir must be full.

We have known them to park u up in the kiddies playground so u can wait for a pitch. :D

Honestly we have found El Raco camping at Benidorm to be the quietist site we have ever been on ... no road noise , no dogs barking thru the nite, no late revellers singing on their way home and definitely no one yakking outside your bedroom window early o’clock .. maybe we have been just lucky .. we only came here as I wanted to see the show at the palace

We also are not the late birds but have enjoyed the local area scenery , which is stunning , we have been to the Benidorm Palace dinner n show and maybe a couple of occasions out in the nite ... we explore daytime , some evening dinners but mostly late afternoon

Maybe years ago we would have been out there , but now love coming back to our two furkins if not with us

Benidorm is great if you do only your thing and not get caught up in the throes n throngs of it lolol

Kath xx
Ps sorry to digress from the op

Of course and I am glad that we are all different. But it's a hell for me.

We stayed one night and couldn't wait to leave.
as you say each to their own but i dont see how you can judge a place as big and diverse as benidorm in one night

Mitzimad, I hated the thought of leaving Camping Marjal to come to Benidorm, but I so much wanted to see the show at the palace, I now have a diff view of Benidorm, away from “the in scene” places it is lovely place to be

Kath
Ps we have found it colder than the algarve though xx lolol

We stopped here in Calp(e) in December without booking (don't know if its's booked up now):

Campsite La Merced

Avd. Jaume I El conqueridor , 32 -E-1, Calp 03710

Very nice owners gave us a warm welcome. Bicycle path from site to town/beach. A few restaurant choices very close by as well as onsite.

Space at cap blanch altea/Albir even though it says full outside. We have been here just Over a week and the reception lady says if you turn up at around 11am there is usually space as there is daily movement of vans leaving site. There were 7 spaces Saturday morning.

@Hel999 - thanks for posting this, we're at Calpe at the moment, hoping to be at Altea/Albir in a week's time. Would you recommend the site, are the pitches a reasonable size? - the one we're on at the moment is lovely, but the pitches are quite small. Thanks :)

Hi Elaine the pitches here vary in size, some are huge and some quite small so I guess it’s pot luck. We dropped lucky and got a good one.

Positives
This is the view from the campsite entrance

Bars, restaurants and shops within 2 min walk.
Number 10 bus every 15 mins into Benidorm and Altea town
Cycle lanes from outside campsite entrance
Altea old town within walking distance or a short bus ride
All bus journeys €1.50 wherever you go
Lidl and other supermarkets within walking and cycling distance (10 mins by bike)
Free WiFi

Negatives:
Only 1 shower block although it is big enough and kept spotlessly clean. It’s only a negative if you end up on the farthest side of the site.

@Hel999 - thanks for that - very useful - cheers (y)

Thank you for all your replies, much appreciated. I had no idea that area was so popular ! You live and learn. We were worried all of Southern Spain would be full... In the end we parked inland in La Nucia outside the sports complex. Now in the camper area of Sant Joan de Alacant near Alicante where there is plenty of space and it's a stone's throw from the beach. (n.b. the El Campello Camper Area a couple of km north of here is very busy but you can book ahead).

Cheers and happy holidays !

Some people now book a year in advance !!

Last time we were on Villa Sol a guy was stalking us waiting for us to leave so he could book it for next year, they would not let him as long as the pitch was occupied.

I was only in Benidorm for a hour.

Watched a couple of brits drunk and arguing in the street.

It was not even 11.00am.

That was enough for me.

Although the old part of Beni was nice

Have seen that in Brighton,,BUSBY:D

I dont like Brighton either. How do they live with all that traffic and no where to park. :D

Tonka towers has underground parking so "I'm allright Jack" (y)(y) ;) :D
My place is 2 streets away for what they class as "the strip" where all the action happens (drinking) but it's like a different world away with lots of families. Go 2 streets the other way and we are on the Beach.....
