I have a 6-1 Halfords charger that I would normally charge via a 3 pin plug when on hookup however I’m looking for a way to charge said item when wildcamping.
Ideally some way to hook upto the solar on the roof which by 9am is mostly wasted.
Any proper ideas would be welcome thank you.

use an inverter in daylight is the simple answer. There are a couple for sale in the classifieds of this forum

Or find a suitable 12v -18v charger. There are buck converters that would do the job well

My first thoughts are, If you have the power to run and charge the 6-1 charger
you don't need it
Thanks for the useful post!!
Used it earlier to jump start an old guys van who had parked in such a way that we couldn’t get leads to the battery. Now I need to recharge it.

Thank you for the useless sarcasm
Yous should have bought a proper remote starter pack that doesn't,need charging every time its used

Again thank you for your on going helpful comments!! Please go back to your helmet wearing crayon eating quiet corner.

Wire this in and attach a suitable wire on the output

Just needs adjusting to the required voltage
Cheers trying to find an invertor in Portugal that’s not uber expensive, in the mean time this may be the thing Thank you.

Too hot for wax crayons did you buy your helmet at Halfrauds too.
Plus im busy polishing my multiple use mobile starter pack .that will do approximately 30 jump starts before it needs re charging via usb
No need to get personal because I pointed out your error in buying unsuitable mains powered Halfords equipment

It's a 12v lead/acid battery, connect directly to leisure battery via a simple lead with Croc clips.
The charger is 420mah....an average phone charger is 2000ma.
And at a presumably fixed output of 16v the voltage is too high for a LA battery.
It will take 40 hours plus to charge a flat 17 ah battery using the charger.
The supplied charger is not fit for purpose in my book.

Sorry to disagree, but the description says it is a 'buck converter'. That means is can only reduce, not increase, the voltage. If you want 16V out you need to put more than 16V in.

Of course there's a good chance the description is wrong, especially if someone actually has one of these working.

You need a 'boost converter', or a 'buck-boost converter'. A laptop charger with 12V in and 19V out is a boost converter. For example

This is kind of what I had in mind, didn’t know if I could croc clip it onto my leisure batteries and just charge the battery in series as and when.

I hope you meant to say charge the battery in parallel (pos to pos, neg to neg) not in series:eek:

My bad yes parallel 🤦🏻‍♂️

You could connect it to the "Load" terminals on your solar regulator - at least one use for them :giggle: .

I've got one, 5 to 35v in, 1.2 to 32v out.
I only use mine fot 5v out but it does do what it says.

The output from the load Terminals is Battery Voltage? (Nom 12V, so whatever the battery currently shows). It will bring the Charger/Booster unit back up, but likely will not fully charge?.

Presumably for 5V out you put 12V in. That confirms it's a perfectly good buck converter.

Usually buck converters lose a volt or two in the conversion. So for 32V out it needs 35V in. For 16V out as the OP requires, it would probably need 18V in.

I take it you have solar power why not just connect to your leisure battery with the jump leads as if you are going to jump start and it will equalise with the leisure battery.
