Hello, I’m just taking a car to leave at a villa in Spain who did you insure with.
Thank You.
I had 4 cars insured in Spain, all with liberty seguros through Jenifer Cunnigham.

Those were all on UK Plates. But one I had matriculated to Spanish registration in December 2019/2020. That is now insured with Línea Directa , €260 a year.

Línea directa won’t insure non Spanish registered vehicles. So the others are still with Liberty .

Does this help ?

It's that time again and thought I'd give Comfort another shot before trying the CAMC (who cost me £396 last year).

Comfort want £1,082.82.

What I can't understand is the very short questionnaire that didn't even ask how much no claims discount I had.# before arriving at this figure.
I’m with Comfort and my renewal this year was a hundred pounds cheaper than last year around £450. No change of circumstances.

Give Adrian Flux a try. They are a broker operating out of Norfolk. They specialise in bikes, classic cars, campers and motorhomes. I’ve insured various vehicles with them including my current campervan. Great service and always competitive.
Unfortunately not competetive when I tried them

Since May 05 (Ex Tuggers).
We would have stayed with Comfort, had they not tried to up the premium to a ridiculously higher amount, when we changed from the 20 year old Hymer to the 15 year old N+B Flair. As it was during the pandemic, (going nowhere abroad), we went with NFU, as breakdown and UK recovery already catered for, via Britannia Rescue.

As it is now, we are now with SAGA, and including a MH specific EU breakdown recovery and repatriation policy, it came out cheaper than the NFU and Britannia cover combined, and the premium is guaranteed for 3 x years, unless circumstances change.

Re windscreen cover, it really is imperative that you check the small print, to make sure you are covered. Our front screen alone is in the 5K price range so I always go for unlimited glass cover, making sure that the polycarbonate habitation windows are covered too.

Autoglass came out to us and carried out a stonechip repair. When I had another about 10 cm from the last repair, they refused to do it saying that they would only fit a new screen. (What a money making exercise that is for them). I declined and arranged for a local chap to come out. He has done 2 x repairs for me, at £25 a shot, and practically invisible. Cheaper than my £75 excess, none of the previous hassle (see below), and not lining the pockets of Autoglass. My daughter used to work for them at Cardington, Beds, so I am aware of some of their business practices, plus the fact that they made a right cock up up of fitting a new screen to the Hymer, resulting in 3 x failed attempts, shards of glass everywhere, and a 3 x figure sum of compensation being awarded to us as a result.

I detest these big companies, and with insurer's, you only find out how good they are, when you really need them...........which is often to blooming late. :(

Cheers,

Jock. :)

Renewals via email rely on laziness to succeed , people get an email, ignore it then find their premium has doubled when they wonder why there's no money in their account.

I always thought the whole motor insurance business is a world unto itself. Reading this thread just confirmed it!

The insurance on my Jag reduced £8 this year to £171. And the van reduced for the fourth time in as many years, to circa £269 (including up to 180 days storage in Spain!). Both vehicles with different underwriters and different brokers. :giggle:

Just waiting to see if the downward trend continues when the renewal comes up for Mrs mikebeaches car at the end of next month.

As an aside, our house buildings and contents cover dropped substantially this year too - down from about £220 to £170, and cover increased. We're with Legal & General for that, and they just changed the underwriting to LV=. Happy Days. (y)

Does appear to be a downward trend over the last year or two, car insurance only went down by a couple of pounds this year but was only £104, better than the £250 a couple of years ago. Got the house policy down to £130 from £350.

Don't forget the rules on insurance changed, they can't now offer discounted policies to first time customers so it has meant that new policies went up in price and also that some renewals came down too.

Not paying this much for my Concorde Charisma which is insured for £110K after trying around LV was the best deal

These posts always amuse me

People moan about the cost of insurance, brag about the cheapest quote they have found and the value of their motorhome.

There is rarely any mention of the actual cover provided, (windscreens excepted) at the end of the day like most things you get what you pay for.

There is never any mention of the excess, for example. There was a post on another forum recently where a guy was insuring a Porsche with a £5k excess "to make it affordable". Great, but he crashed it!

Unfortunately you only find out how good/bad insurance is when there is need to claim. Hopefully something that will never occur.

I see where you coming from and there are a lot of posts that are pertinent only to the person posting but like everything in life you have to go on balance with what you see and then check the details as they apply to yourself.

This thread was a genuine attempt on my part to try to understand why I was being quoted so high by a company that I and others have previously used and found competetive. It was also a cry for help in terms of finding a company that would quote something more reasonable. I failed in the former to understand, but succeeded in the latter by being pointed towards a company I would never have thought of but who gave what I was after and more.

Long live threads that amuse.

LV seems to have come up regularly in this thread. Can someone , who has recently insured over the phone with them, please give me a phone number to use.
I've looked on their website and can't find a contact number.

Thanks

Patrick

Insurance just make up a figure our cars are all over the place.
when it came to the new van I rang loads a 150k van and it ranged from we can’t cover it to £2000 but NFU were the best at around £600 and all the details and cover were the same really.
