It's that time again and thought I'd give Comfort another shot before trying the CAMC (who cost me £396 last year).

Comfort want £1,082.82.

What I can't understand is the very short questionnaire that didn't even ask how much no claims discount I had.# before arriving at this figure.

Just had renewal for my 4x4 was £265 now £191 cannot understand as my motorhome went up £100.

Hi Folkranger
I would ask for a re-quote, its got to be wrong, that's the sort of premiums that van lifers are asked to pay.
Did they ask about security devices, also an active Tracker if valued at over 70K?
Predicted annual mileage?, We dropped ours since Covid to a more realistic figure.
Where its parked is quite important with Comfort, has that changed since last renewal?
Hope you get it sorted.

Just been on to comfort to see if there is a mistake but there was not. She assumed it was due to a combination of the vehicle value, my age and my postcode. Obviously the North East is a more dangerous place to drive and own a vehicle than the South East. Very strange. They also don't do no claims bonuses, only use driving record. Obviously over a hundred years without claims between us two isn't good enough for them.

As above got a telephone requote. Yes tracker, Yes over 70k, 2000 miles/year, kept at home (in rear garden behind locked and alarmed gates. I'll try NFU which is also well rated on this site and then it's back to CAMC to see what my renewal is with them.

It was the other way round for us.
When we changed vans in January we moved to Comfort (from CAMC) as the CAMC quote was double the quote from Comfort.
I really don't understand how they calculate the figures.

Didn't Comfort have a change of underwriter in the last year? I wonder if that's why the quotes are so silly now.

LV= insure our 2018 Hymer B678DL fully comp with UK &EU breakdown and full windscreen replacement less excess of course £331.04 👍 that’s down from £441 last year👍😊
Give them a try?😊

We're with Comfort (underwritten by Aviva).....MH value 75k, tracker yes, both of us on the insurance, 6k miles per year. Just had the renewal notice though: less than £350, up £7.89 from last year.

2 years ago i was insured for my Motorbike through Triumph insurance. They sent me a renewal stating that if i got a lower quote, they would match it or beat it.
I got another quote, 25 quid cheaper tha Triumph , phoned them up to give them the good news , expecting them to at least match it.
They couldnt have given a toss , never even tried.
Went elsewhere. Tuff titty Triumph.

Will do. We're both on LV for our cars

Must be my age then as most of yours seems comparable to mine , oh and my quote was without any breakdown cover.

Spoke to CAMC they don't usually give renewals until about 16 days beforehand which would be 3 days before my ferry crossing.

Thanks Speve. Would not have thought about LV for motorhome cover but I've got it now with LV for £245 with an option of £53 for UK/EU breakdown which I'm looking into. As both our cars are with LV I've got a discount for multicover.

Aviva doubled my insurance quote, just like that. On further enquiries, they had brought out a much smaller insurance company and wanted to ditch the number of customers across the board. Those that were happy to pay double could stay, but those like me went elsewhere and got a reasonable quote. Mine with Admiral, who have been very competitive over the years.

Only thing is, he didn't ask the motorhome type or value, just 2.3 fiat. Also didn't ask about security or tracker. It's funny how some factors mean everything to one company and another firm is not interested.

Our Comfort insurance went up a huge amount this year £2.09
£394 for 8000 miles plus £65 for breakdown cover.

Wonder why they quoted me £1083 for a similar, less expensive van doing a quarter your miles and in NE not SE. I only can assume you are 30 years younger than me.

A mere 72.
Mine insured value is £74,500, I didn't want to fit a tracker & it's more than I paid for it new.

I had a quote from them in May, which I accepted. Cheapest of all the companies I tried. What to make of it all?

We have been with Comfort since we bought our first Motorhome. Looked at the CAMC insurance this time and that was half as much again.
