Our pop-up campsite at Holkham is only available for stays between 8 July to 4 August 2022, so make sure you book today to avoid missing out.

From £40* per night, price includes:

Two adults
Standard pitch with electric hook up
Toilets and showers onsite plus fresh water and waste disposal
30% discount on standard admission to the Hall, Walled Garden and Holkham Stories

Times may've changed, and prices increasing is an understandable result, but I have never paid, and never will pay £40 for one night on any site, even smart ones with excellent facilities, let alone 'pop ups'.

I've just had my renewal requests in from both the CMC and the CCC. I joined both last year after 9 years of MH-ing using Britstops and unaffiliated sites, because the huge increase in people camping made me think that having access to the CL/CS sites would be useful. However:
Since I only used sites for 8 nights in the whole of 2021, and so far this year have used 2 CLs (CMC) and have 2 more nights on one CCC site booked, I am seriously wondering whether it's worth renewing with either. I may renew with CMC to use more CLs, but it seems to me that the CCC costs me more in membership than I gain.

If we all refuse to pay those extortionate prices, they will soon lower them :swear2:
But that will never happen
There will always be those who think it's a good price or newbies who don't know any better

Ah! but they are generously giving 30% discount off visiting the hall.

When I first saw the email I thought that would be a pleasant place not far from home to visit for a few days .. then I saw the prices.

Everyone gets 30% off the Adult ticket if they arrive by foot, train, bus or bicycle.

I thought it would be a nice place to take one of the Grandsons for a weekend in the summer when we are sort of booked to help with house remodeling. But at those prices we will use a CL or CS with easy walking access to a railway. He'd be happy riding on trains all day every day.

We have used the car park near the front of the house for the day in our Motorhome , nice walks to lake and around the grounds with good sights of the large deer herd.

Would you pay £40 to stay the night?

No but high pricing has started to restrict areas that we would like to visit and it’s unlikely that prices will ever reduce, just hope that CLs stay reasonably priced.

I agree, a shocking price but I think we only have ourselves to blame. Some people must 5hink we have too much money.
you can buy a new Motorhome for about £45k but they still offer ones at &100k plus. Now who on earth would fall for that?
I guess, as stated above, the manufacturers will soon lower their prices.

The price trend is one aspect. But got to ask - why Holkham Hall? There are much better local amenities to be had.

Sandy balls was charging £60 peak times before it shut its touring pitches, and that was a few years ago now. They must be able to make the numbers work or would not be doing it

A matter of choice I guess , many including me like visiting stately homes and estates .

Some people will like it and pay quite happily, others will use cl sites or THS as it’s more their budget. It’s all personal choice

Or Britstops :)

There are lots and lots of people who will not wild camp for one reason or other. along with proly just as many who only use their MH for a couple of weeks a year.
£280 for a weeks holiday for a family of 4 might not seem so bad for them

Funsters are, by and by, not among those and like me have a different mind set
We use camp sites as a last resort.. or perhaps if somewhere has a particularly good club house with good entertainment
But parking up beside a river / lake holds far more for us than a field with the great unwashed and paying a kings ransom for the privilege :-)

The £40 a night was for 2 adults and was a "from" figure. I haven't checked but would guess that a good pitch and children would cost more than £40 a night.

That's almost a gallon of diesel 🤭

You may joke but yesterday I costed up a Galloon of Diesel at the going rate and it came to £8.50!!!:eek:

We do a mixture, CMC C&CC pub stopovers and wilding, have already recouped both club fees on sites for this year, they were/are in places we want to go with facilities we want/need for us and grandchildren, am shocked at some of the price rises but, have not seen any prices dropping lately. Just spent a night at an independent site serviced hardstanding pitch, lovely grassy area next to hardstanding complete with picnic table and benches. Surprisingly the grass, non serviced pitches were the same price.

£40 That is far too high for me. We use THS in the main. Occasionally we use camp sites in low to med season. We like Warren farm, Brean, as it is reasonably priced & is located next to a great beach. Which is most importantly dog friendly all year round. Often has good entertainment. Personally would avoid school holidays for any campsites. I am currently looking for an alternative camp site or THS located next to good dog friendly beach in the SW Wales area, any recommendations.

Each to their own.

Our three week summer trip to France and Italy covers eight sites (we don't do aires). Only three of those sites are under 40 euros a night, the cheapest is 32 euros a night and the most expensive is 101 euros a night.

We like big pitch sizes (>100m2), being able to walk ten yards to the sea (or lake), water and drainage and decent EHU. We probably could have shaved off a few hundred euro by being crammed onto pokier pitches, or having to upsticks and drive to the water, but no, we're on holiday.

It is still about 20% of what it would cost if we had flown and got a hotel or chalet.

Bit of a generalisation! We only use sites. Never wild and only ever once used an Aire.

Fortunately, there are no rules to how you use your motorhome. We use club sites from both clubs and if prices go up, it is for us, a simple fact of life that everything is going up. Don't like it, but we like motorhoming so we'll put up with it.

More concerned about the price of derv to be honest.

The £40 or £42 is for a pitch with electric and there are showers and toilets on site but there does not seem to be an option for a non electric pitch, so yet again the CAMC seem to be assuming that people want electric and showers or maybe being the "Caravan Club" most of their target audience do;)

In contrast though we are staying on Windsor racecourse for the Royal Windsor Horse Show and Platinum Pageant, again with CAMC the price with electric is £52.5 per night minimum 2 nights or without electric £24 actually we are doing 4 nights so it drops to £22, this example suggest that it is very expensive providing temporary power to a grass site but at least the Club have decided to burden the cost on those that want the service rather than everybody whether they want it or not.
