How much for an Oil & Filter change

Need a new tech if it takes 1.5 hours to do an oil change. 30 mins tops.
Yes quite agree, done mine at home ,15 mins to open the sump and take off old filter, drain oil whilst having lunch. New filter and new oil another 15 mins.
But that's at home at £0 per hour ,not at a garage with high overheads and plus £100 per hour charges.
I took my old oil to the local tip where there is a tank to put it in, that took me a further 30 mins,ok just a splash of petrol for the car .
Really the moral is ,do it yourself ,but sometimes you have to maintain that warranty and bite the bullet.

My local car garage did a wheel speed sensor for my car not a bad cost but standard charge for disposal of waste £20

I recently purchased genuine oil, oil filter, fuel filter air filter plus habitation filter plus front disc pads and discs for mercedes W906 £346.00

Do you mean the boxes had a Merc sign on them 😉😊

They should charge less with each service since they replace fewer and fewer undertray fixings each time until the whole thing eventually falls of by service no 5

I had VW Transporter.

The “tecky” must of thought to save the process and just didn’t bother putting mine back on at its secound service 🙄

As an aside, anyone recommend a dipstick oil removal pump. Seems to be a lot less messy than cracking the sump plug.
Got mine from Lidl a few years back, it is 12v and sucks the sump dry in just a few minutes. I bought it when I had a Smart Car as the do not have a sump drain plug.

It might be a lot less messy, but you probably won't get as much crap out of the bottom of the sump as you will when you let it drain out fully.
These are just my personal thoughts on the subject.

There shouldn't be any crap, that’s what the filter is for. Even if there is, the pick up pipe shouldn’t be right at the bottom of the sump.

Used both methods, if an undershield is there, it gets sucked. If not as in the motorhome with enough clearance not to use ramps, I drop it out the bottom as it’s quicker.

Much easier to suck if you want regular changes.

Femco drain plug and hose makes life much easier, cleaner, as gets it all out.

Long story short. Have a series 8 Ducato, which has been back to Fiat on 3 occasion, trying to sort the engine management light keep comming on, and has been back in again this week, and they have now put a new dpf filter on it (under warranty), so hopefully will now sort it.
Anyway, as it is comming up 12 months old, I ask them to change the oil and filter. Yes, I know it’s 2 year servicing etc, but I am of the old school where I like to change the oil every 12 months whatever.
anyway, collected the vehicle yesterday afternoon and paid the bill for the oil change. She must have seen my jaw drop, £307.14. £152.90 + vat =£183.48 was the labour part.
Now as the vehicle was already on the ramp/over the pit etc, how long would it actually take to drop the oil, change the filter and re-fill.
I’m all for paying a fair price and the going rate, but came away somehow feeling that someone was pi@@ing down my back and telling me it was raining😉🤣
Just thought it was a little on the high side. Certainly won’t be taking it back for its 1st big service.
My local workshop in Bramley, Hamshire charged me £100 for an oil and filter change, plus

My local workshop charged me £100.00 for oil and filter change, and, they gave me the oil left in the can. When I had the cam belt changed they charged £800 for the cam belt change, a full service and MOT. I didn't think that was too bad.

Similar thing but in this case, my Ford Focus.
One injector failed and local garage said it needed a Ford dealership to reprogram the ECU after doing the work and consequently turned it down.

Took it to Haynes Maidstone and cost me an eye watering £900!

6 months later, another injector failed. Discovered that my local Motorhome services (3 miles away) could do the work and get somebody in to reprogram the ECU.

They apologised for the cost - total £340!!!!!

Put it this way, a high quality Oil to meet the factory specs (Total Ineos or similar) will cost you around 60 quid for 7 litres, Oil filter from such as Bosch - 10 quid or less. AND the job can be done in 20 mins its that easy. If they want to charge you as they have quoted then just think what it could be for the Fuel filter which take a bit more time.

At a Fiat service centre tbh thats pretty fair, its still under warranty have the latest software updates.
An interim service they will still check other stuff as they work to a check sheet.

Your not fitting genuine parts though and the oil they recommend is Selinia and not cheap. He is still in warranty so you dont invalidate that by fitting a bosch filter.

Was that for your MH

I have a Ford Ranger and the oil change has to be completed in 10 minutes to prevent the oil pump from draining. just had it done Oil change 7.5 litres + filter + mot, £115.
And the oil is removed by a pump. No need to remove sump plug.
Didn't know that...thanks for the information 😄

Right so they charging you roughly £103+Vat for 6.38 litres of oil and a filter, which is Retail 🤷‍♂️ So as long as they used Petronas WR Forward sae 0w-30 that's about right ! Fiat Professional labour is probably £152.90+ Vat an hour charge. They never quote part hour's, only complete. So one hour minimum. So if took 25 mins or 55 mins it's an hour to you !
But saying that £103+Vat for 6.38 litres of Petronas and a genuine filter is cheap, as oil is £22.95 a litre on Ebay 🙄

I got mine from Lidl too.
They get them in once or twice a year
About £20 to £30 quid if i remember correctly?

My 1st low milage service 2019 was done by suppliers Simpsons fiat pro and also updated the ecu at same time was a reasonable £150 but 1st 2year @ 550 not so , so been doing it myself since. Apart from cambelt AM portsmouth. £ 750 but had quotes 1000 to 1250 from other fiat pro. Used to use mahle filters as were oem for fiat and my vag stuff, but, no longer made in Austria ,now china. At least Man are still made in Germany.
As long as the oil is to the correct specification there should be no issues with warranty.
Fiat 9.55535-DS1 Engine Oil is a mid SAPS 0w-30 lubricant, based on ACEA C2 specification.
I use Fuchs TITAN GT1 Pro 2312 0w-30

Basically we all know it's the Main Stealer's labour rates that are now mostly in the region of £150 per hour, that's what kick's us in the proverbial's 😫

Lots more to fund in that £150 per hour, than the local garage who answers the phone himself and no corporate image to fund.
Although £300 sounds a bargain as my most expensive service ever was a 4 year major at £2800.Front pads was the thing extra needed.

Plenty do otherwise there wouldn't be any used for you to buy 😅

If I did buy a new one I’d probably look after myself and wouldn’t bother with the warranty…
