Morning all
i know there are some pretty clued up electrical wizards on here so I’d appreciate a bit of help.
if I run a 1250 watt coffee machine for 6 minutes via a 1500 watt inverter, how much will I drain my battery? I keep trying to work it out and keep getting different answers 🙁

OldWomble ...... Every time you make a coffee it will discharge your battery by 11.462 amps.
That's 11.462 amps less than you had before you made a coffee.
Only pedants confuse things with amp hour etc.

The battery capacity is marked in amp hours. How is that confusing things?

What would be confusing (!) is if the OP wired up his inverter with cable to support the 11 amps you told him it would draw and set fire to his van.

The pedant comments aren't really necessary, a simple yes, you're right would have sufficed.

Now go back and read the OP.

The OP will drain 11.462 amps
He will not drain 114..62 amps in 6 minutes though 114.62 amps hour will pass through the wiring for 6 minutes.

NO!

Current is measured in Amps.

Battery capacity is measured in Amp Hours.

If you have a 10 amp device running for 1 hour, a current of 10 amps will be flow through the wires.

This will use 10 amp hours of the available battery capacity.

If you were to run the same device for half an hour:

10 amps will flow.
5 amp hours will be used.

You got the maths spot on, but are confusing amps and amp hours.

The current flow will be 114.62 amps for 6 minutes. 6 minutes is 1/10 hour. Battery capacity used (amp-hours) will be amps x hours, ie 114.62 x 1/10 = 11.462 amp-hours.
