Hi
There is an awful lot of people who say that they have turned the front seat(s) around and by various means secured them with cables, padlocks etc

This seems a very good and relative cheap way of making the theft of a van either unlikely, or impossible

BUT the question is how many people HAVE had their van taken away whilst using this security system?

Honest answers please
Thanks
Richard

Why bother, if they break in and are frustrated by not being able to steal it, they'll probably trash it anyway.

Better to keep the ba**ards out in the first place, deadlocks on the doors..

Not been broken into for thirty years.

I would agree visual deterrent is IMHO the best type of security;
Bright blue flashing LEDs, AKA Vanbitz Growler and non starter!!!
It ain’t going anywhere if used correctly??

Any deterrent is going help although I don't like door dead locks - the ones I've seen would simply break off with sharp smack from a lump hammer.
I use the seat locked in reverse method, obvious, simple, light and difficult to remove.
I also have a loud siren type CAT5 alarm.
Not had a van stolen but never say never - just be vigilant and hope for the best ----- It is insured for theft after all :giggle: :giggle:

I Have a Growler Alarm, but I did buy a Clutch Claw this week also.
Hoesafe Deadlocks would be nice to fit also, but still scratching my head on a secure hab door lock that I can actually fit, as the bathroom wall return is butted up against the left hand door frame, cannot get behind it to fit back plate, so not an easy choice.
The main concern for everyone is the damage that can be done by thieves trying to gain access, bending hab doors, prising garage doors & frames, screwdrivers through cab door skins etc, aint cheap to fix, and parts can take ages to get even if you can locate them.

we have deadlocks on hab and cab doors, they look like Yale locks so I don’t think anyone will be breaking them off with a hammer.
We also have a Growler!

I'm not too concerned if it gets stolen that's down to the insurance company They will probably pay me more than a dealer would
give me as a trade in and then buy another one

I just park near far better vans than mine thanks to all those lovely owners of vans that I can't afford ...:*

I would agree about the door locks they will just cause a lot of damage if thieves try to break in. The windows are the easiest way in and there's not a lot you can do about them,

Take the MIL, handy with a hand bag as can be seen here.

Did you fit them yourself?
Toying with idea but comments about the damage if they try to get in makes me have 2nd doubts.

Yes here's the thread about it..

I doubt very much anyone would bother trying to get in once they see them.

This is what you end up with if you don’t have a good alarm system and park in a back of beyond CL.
Unfortunately the window suffered as the van was parked against a hedge and the door locks are too good!

Bought mine from a local hardware stockist---"key alike " so one key fits all and not expensive. Fit them myself ---not rocket science

I think the OPs original question is a really interesting one and I don't think anyone has answered it.

I've seen a number of posts, here and on FB etc asking a similar question; What security devices did people have on vans that have been broken into/stolen? It seems to me that this is very important data but 99% of all replies default to the usual 'here's my solution'/'your solution won't work, here's my solution'/'why bother they can get in anyway' opinions and debates. The only piece of 'data' you usually see is the claim, which I have never seen substantiated, that the alarm/tracker company who also do the remote vehicle shut down (I've forgotten their name) have never had a van successfully stolen.

Perhaps it's because people who have had a break in or theft are upset and don't post, maybe they are embarrassed because they didn't have security, or some other reason. I'd be really interested to know from people who have actually had a problem (whether the thieves were successful or thwarted) what security you had and did it help?

Now they are on Ebay everybody knows they are fake and will simply ignore them
There is that, but if a thief sees you have "deadlocks" unless they get up close and check they may just decide to move on to an easier target. Not bad really for just a couple of stick on bits

Deadlocks will probably secure the door well..but I'm struggling to see the value, when the windows are so relatively easy to break through?

Turning the seats around might stop the van being driven away - I suspect most thieves won't realise the seat is locked though, until after they've broken in. If they can't defeat the seat lock it might prevent a drive away - but a well-installed immobiliser will do the same.

Visible deterrence is the key for me - put them off trying, rather than trying to defeat them at their own game. An immobiliser, a big yellow steering wheel lock and very loud, a well installed, very visible alarm is my chosen route.

It would also be interesting also to know facts on points of entry. Plenty people talk about deadlocks and extra Hab door locks but how many are actually broken into via a window or skylight?

Thank you IRHP,

You have saved me having to write a very similar reply!
II was hoping for some data quotes, maybe actual experiences but to know avail

But thanks again for your comments

Richard
