Interested to see what everyone thinks. Not my best subject

On site for 3 days now got a single leisure battery with 120 amp solar

Battery started at just under 13 amps now on 11.5

How low would you let it go

10 amps

I can use a generator to change it up was interested to see how many days one battery could go

Don't want to let it drop to low and damage it

Cheers

10V is totally flat and dead. Most likely you will have done damage.

Rule of thumb is lead acid batteries more than 50% discharge will shorten life, so that is around 12V. If you are down to about 11.5% you have probably got 20% left. Gel might tolerate discharge to that, but Lead acid won't be happy. It can also depend on rate of discharge, heavier rate puts more strain on the battery.

Most batteries will show loweer voltage under a load than once they get to stabilise free of load. So check once you have disconnected and switched off for true status having left it for 30 minutes to an hour.

probably getting mixed up. I did say its not my topic

Volts amps watts etc

battery is at 11.5 after 3 days use

Ill charge in the morning

Have you identified what is draining your battery?

The battery saver on mine cut in at 9V once in storage. It's still ok over 2 years later - I was obviously lucky judging by various posts on this forum (not to be recommended!)

Have one 95Ah AGM leisure battery & 100w solar panel. Just spent three days & nights on site no electric hook up. voltage never dropped lower than 12.5v. used tv one night for a couple of hours, charged usual gamins, bike lights phones etc. obviously everything else on gas. you must be using a lot of power?

Is your panel charging ok through the day?

I'm sure that's 13 volts. If so, that means the solar panel is working. A battery that's not being charged will not go over 12.9 volts, so that's a good sign. It sounds like you are simply taking out more power than the solar is putting in, over the course of a day. You need to give it a boost with the generator.

Apart from being noisy and smelly, a generator is not very efficient at putting charge into a battery. Typically the mains charger is 20 amps or less. That means it's only using 20 x 12 = 240 watts of its energy (amps x volts = watts), and it's probably a 1000 watt generator. But when the battery is down to 11.5V, it's very flat and needs a charge.

Don't be misled by the voltage when the battery is charging. It will go up to 13 or 14 volts very quickly, but needs a few hours to put the charge back into the battery. A couple of hours at least.

Unless it's dark where you are at 11.5v your solar isn't working.
Is that 11.5v with anything turned on? If so turn EVERYTHING off for an hour and check again.
12.2v is around 50% discharged and as low as you should let it go.

OP said it started at 13v.....they may have just arrived on site after driving miles and getting a charge from the alternator.

OK over night it settled to 11.4 so this morning I got the generator out
Its not smelly and pretty quiet and im the only one right now on Willow Fields
2kw generator

I have a 95 amp hour varta battery just one factory fit

Im going to put another one next to it under the drivers seat

I need to change my pic but cant get that to work either

Yes I do run a fair bit of power tv on for 4 hours a day I guess

When the sun comes out raining right now and its all fully charged ill see what it reads once settled and see how solar is working cant check it right now though

So 11.4 on an agm as a low should be ok right?

Our van was locked down from end of February until 4 th July. On collecting it had to fit new starter battery it just wouldn’t start with jumpleads and two starter packs. The hab battery was flat but has charged up and now lasts three days off grid like it always did strange but true.

Do you have a switch to select which battery is being charged from the solar? Ours was originally wired incorrectly and was charging the cab battery when I thought it was charging the leasure battery. It now usually reads around 13.4V while charging on solar (100w panel and 85Ah battery).

We spent 7 nights off grid at the beginning of July, we have 2 x 95 amp batteries and 100 w solar. Batteries never dropped below 12.5 v and we didn’t have sunshine all the time.

Was that 12.5v figure during the day? If so you were measuring the voltage of the amount the solar panels were putting in, not the state of batteries.
