I’m a newbie
Hi
Anyone know how long a full tank of water would last for 2 people off grid ? Say a shower a day, bit for washing up 120 litre tank.
Cheers

Depends.... Are you drinking from the same tank? What about tea/coffee? Are you/partner washing long hair?
If you are reasonable... You can probably stretch to three days if you are careful. That's with the showers. Take them off and use a sink if water for washing and a sink to rinse and you can go longer.

Hi our tank in the same capacity it usually lasts 3 to 4 days.
Be aware if your showering each day and not just having a good top to toe wash it won't last as long. Also when showering don't leave the shower running just on and off as you need it.
Also have a spray bottle in the look to spray after a wee instead of flushing water each time that saves your water and your cassette.

there is 2 of us & wehave 160 L tank ,both shower every day , we can manage 4 days at a push SO would guess the same as RubyOptics , probably 3 days

Hello and welcome.

It really depends if you've ever had a motorhome/caravan before, if not it'll most likely last about a day, you'll be amazed how much water you use at home and then how much more sensible you have to be using it in the van.
It makes you think about the amount you use when having to fill in the rain in the middle of the night because you've realised that leaving the tap on whilst brushing your teeth has emptied the tank lol.

Some will come along and say they can last a week on that amount which is quite doable with practice but I think as said 3 days is about right.

Is your grey tank able to hold the same amount though?

I know theres other things in the equation, washing machine, full flush loo etc but the average water consumption per person in the UK is around 142ltrs so 852 ltrs for 2 people over three days, you've to cut that down to 120ltrs for three days.

Having a motorhome is a great way to save water.

Happy showering.

Shawn

3 or 4 days. But you can double that easily If you are really, really, careful, And you take your drinking water in bottles and not from the tank. But you mustn't waste a drop, if you need hot water, you cannot waste the pipe full of cold waiting for the hot to arrive, you need to catch that and get it back in the tank. Some use of a bowl and a flannel to cut showers right down. But with practice you can shower using less water than you might put in a bowl.

You won't really know till you give it a go. Tell us how you get on. (y)

I have taught my wife to have a shower using minimal water.
We both have managed 8 days off grid in Spain.!!!!!showering every day!!
Must be the Scot in me that just knows how to be a miser.(I definitely know the value of a pound)😁😁😁

As all above have said. 3-4 days with care. We have the same size fresh tank but 85 ltr waste. Our fresh flushes the toilet too. We used to manage only 2 days having 'navy' showers daily (2 of us), but the addition of an eco shower head this trip (£9 on Amazon) has extended that massively.

This shower head is possibly the best investment I've made in this van so far. Used to have to run round in the shower to get wet, now feels like a massage (slight exaggeration).

Sue has also become a little less profligate withe the washing up too lol.

Waste tank and toilet are the limiting factors. We like to move every couple of days anyway.

Toilet flush uses a lot so spray bottle with Zoflora after weeing. Also go easy on shampoo and shower gel the more you use the more you need to rinse off and therefore the more water you use.
weve gone back to soap in the van as its easier to rinse off

With a 380L tank and Management on board I will need to fill up every other day. If it’s just me then that will easily last a week, longer if I’m careful. :gum:

Which one please...?

Like others have said its entirely down to how careful you are.

Ours is only about 80ltrs and didn't even get 2 days out of it. Girlfriend doesn't grasp the concept of saving water yet

Anyone got links to recommendations for the eco heads. Lot about so one thats been tested by a funster would be good.

We just make 4 days. "navy" showers, the powers that be in our van has now been trained in the art of saving water.

Must admit to never having thought of throwing the water back into the tank that would have been wasted by waiting for hot water. Thanks Jim

We use about 50 litres a day with both of us showering.

We can manage on 40lt a day, with a shower each, we keep drinking water separate and use the shower carefully

Also about 3/4 days, I would love a small basin in the shower enclosure simply so as to be able to have a strip wash and rinse off with the shower without running the water for the shower to get hot, as Jim says this wastes a ton of water in our van. I have got used to cold showers now, my short term memory often allows me to forget to get the water hot before getting in the bloody thing in the first place. God knows what it sounds like outside, gasping and bad language as a dawn chorus.

Depends on what you are doing as to whether you need a shower everyday, if you are walking 10 miles in the sunshine, running, cycling, having mad sex, then yes but normal day to day activities every 2 days shower will suffice.

The answer has to be it will last as long as it takes to run out. As you can see there are quite different patterns of use.

Our kids all grew up in a van and know the drill about using little water. In our van, if the pump sounds for longer than 3 seconds or so someone will shout. Now they are grown up, it's still ingrained.

Last year there were five of us in the van, we were parked up near Katies hospital and I'm in the bathroom. I left the tap on a second too long...then loud, instinctively and in unison, 4 family members let out a deafening "Oi" :D

Some great responses in this thread. That we got to answer 25, before someone said that, means Motorhomefun is in good health. That would have been the first answer on any other forum. '\
