Thinking buying a panel van, found a nice one but it has no oven. How do others manage without one. Hubby and I spend most time off grid . Would like to here how others manage?

Ann

I did put a small oven in ours but use the double skillet when not on hook up.

What do you do with your oven? There are alternatives which can cope with many things that would traditionally have been cooked in an oven, e.g. airfryer, remoska, cadac etc

double skillet and BBQ cast iron pot to bake Bread like a dutch oven
bill

use a pressure cooker. but fry the food to look like its roasted.
just a few minutes just to brown the food.
or slip the pressure cooked food under a grill for a minute or so.
used to use a folding oven on the gas rings for bread but you can cook bread in a pressure cooker.

We decided not to have an oven in our latest van. All our cooking is done in a saucepan, frying pan or Omnia stove top cooker.
We don’t miss the oven but we don’t eat roast dinners at home or while we are away.
Life’s too short to spend hours preparing food!
That’s what restaurants were invented for.....

I don’t miss it in our current van we had a rubbish one in our last pvc that just made me cross , it got the van hot but left food half cooked :blusher:

We cook on the hob top, we have a trivet to fit inside a pan if I want to warm stuff through that I have oven cooked at home (lasagnes ). We also use the cadac when the weather is fine.

Otherwise we wait until a mate turns up with a van with an oven :)

my last van had 2 gas rings, no grill, no oven.....you soon get inventive with cooking, try cooking something at home first without using the oven

we bought a cobb for outside cooking

Like others, we were unsure how we’d manage when we changed to a van without an oven 18 months ago - the answer is fine, thanks to Remoska and a Weber Q1200 barbecue.

BBQ and the pizza oven, used the hob only about 2-3 times a year if we arrive very late.

Why do you need an oven?

There are countless recipes that you can do with one or two pots on a two burner hob

M/H cooking is just not Beans on soggy toast and takeaways.

Our oven makes a good cupboard.Never used it..Always use Romeska instead.BUSBY.

Take one cup of cold gravy, two tomatoes, one lump of frying steak some fish skin, chop it all up, put it all in a bowl give it to the dog and then go down the pub and have a pie and a pint! (y)

Went from a 4 hob , oven , grill to just 2 burner hob. Dont miss the oven and grill.

We don't have an oven in our MH and don't miss it. We use a double skillet pan, much easier than cleaning a oven.

Omnia
Compact and light
Use it on the gas hob.

My oven was just used for storing bread.lol

Ditto the Omnia style pot still experimenting with the one bought from Minxy Girl (y) bread first attempt slightly burnt? but got the hang of it now ,chicken with leek in white wine sauce ,fishermans pie ,when peeing down with rain at Stratford .bread rolls etc now done to perfection on low heat .
That and the smaller size original skillet .who needs an oven ?

Our oven seems to be used most days, I think swmbo wouldn't support getting a mh without one. Looked at a N&B one yesterday. Quite nice but oven at ceiling height and swmbo is 5ft.so definitely got the raspberry.

Omnia (or similar) stove top oven.
Just happens I have one to sell!:)

Never had an oven in our van but not missed it even in 3-4 months away but thinking about it don’t actually use my oven a lot at home except for baking

Otherwise we wait until a mate turns up with a van with an oven :)
I can vouch for that. It goes something like this -

Hello, lovely to see you (hugs and kisses all round)
HELLO IZZY (much more excitement) have you missed us, such a good girl.........etc.........etc......etc. Half an hour later Izzy is usually curled up with Chris and Carolyn having continuous fuss.
Then it comes - shall we have dinner together? We have homemade lasagne, we could cook it in your oven!! We have wine too?( as if we need to be bribed!) ??

This usually means a pre-dinner G&T......or 2. From somewhere a bit of greenery in a bowl will appear, a drop of wine or should that be a bottle or 3. All intentions of being good have been long forgotten.

Colin will hint at Jenbens hidden supply of chocolate, a massive tub full of chocolate goodies appears on the table and coffee and brandy will follow.

That my friends, is what happens when the Jenbens want to reheat their lasagne in your oven!!

Roll on the next time. ???

Armytwowheels ::bigsmile: that is exactly how it goes.

We thought we were being subtle :blusher:

Btw have lasagnes in freezer waiting for you to turn up.

Tell Colin hidden chocolate supplies have been moved .

See you soon.

We didn’t use an oven when we had one, and don’t miss not having one.
Eating habits have changed a bit thought. Amazing what you can cook in one pan.
More tinned food as well. M and S curries mmm.
