Our 2013 fiat, horn itself failed, easy bolt on replacement. Can you check with meter at horn before getting more techie?

Just get a helper to press the horn while you check for 12v at the horn wires.
May be a broken wire/bad connection/bad earth.
Easiest checks first then the more difficult ones.

Check the wires to the horn are ok at the horn.

Then get Sue to press the horn on the steering wheel and lightly tap the horn itself.
It may have seized up due to non use, they can do that.

Also put a test on cables you may find its permanent live with ignition on and eart switched by depressing steering wheel.

I'm afraid it's probably over use...!

I'm parked up on Aberdeen sea front at the moment so will have to leave it until I'm in a more suitable place...

Started in1974 with a converted London ambulance
Went to pick up MH after last MOT. As they handed me my new certificate l said, any problems ?
No all ok.Oh your horn was'nt working we gave it a tap with a spanner it's working fine now when did you last use it? Thought for a moment then realised that in 10 years can't remember ever using it.
His advice was give it a toot occasionally as they can seize up.

Regards Bob.

Since 2008 & many years tugging
Probably a relay in line with it as well worth checking out.

Getting the horn on Aberdeen sea front might get you arrested.:D

That reminds me a few years ago did a job in Aberdeen, looking to get a bite to eat asked some lads and got the reply "there's a McD down there or a Burgerking over there or are you loaded" choose my reply carefully.

Sounds like a company you need to stay with, both using their initiative and not trying to do you for a unnecessary fix.

Since 2005 this time
Could be corrosion Gary, Horn is under the W/W Washer reservoir,
Over filling, stuff dripping down, corrodes the terminals on the horn, sometimes it creeps up the wires too, on the Fiat I had to cut the wires back a bit till I found shiney copper wire.

Had the same prob this week on the VW, the whole shebang sucked the kumara, so rather than stuff about, I rewired the damn thing

Getting Better
Horn is now working, before when I had a quick look there where wires around the horn, now I've had the chance to get a good shuftie at it and the wires I saw previously were the wires on the twin horns.
I took the horn off and it looked as it the plug had come out, had a good feel around through the letter box and the only wires I found were a couple of spade end connections not with a plug on the end..? So I gave these a check on the multi-meter and bingo... fitted these to the two pins on the horn taped up and put it all back together.

Now why the plug has been removed and replaced with two spade ends I'll never know so something else to play with and fix properly when I have more time...

Thanks for all suggestions...(y)
