Just out of interest, what length electric hookup cables do folks carry?
I've just checked mine and I must have nearly 50m.
I'm sure I don't really need that much although in 10 years I think I've needed the full length once.

25m is usually plenty, we didn't have enough once in Portugal but they lent us one to extend it 👍

I carry a 25m and a 10m. Mostly I can get away with using the 10m one but occasionally need the 25m.
I’d have thought 50m is much more than you’ll need. If you do keep the 50m, ensure that it is not kept tightly wrapped on a reel when connected. Unwind fully and loop it widely under the van. Plenty of posts about the dangers of keeping mains cable on a drum/reel.

Same as Ingwe. One site we go to regularly we need both so wrap the connection in a bag and hang it from the pitch marker.

We got a 25m cable included in starter pack. On most hard standing pitches we don’t need it. We use a 10m which is perfect. Literally never used the 25m one

I got told off on a CMC site a couple of weeks ago, I carry 2 x 15m cables and needed to join to reach

club rule says no joining allowed, apparently kids might play with it 😳

no mention of the posts with unlocked covers

The only risk I can really see is damp in the joint, mine have IP 56 seals, the glanded cable entry ones, but that doesn’t matter 🤔

Will now add another longer length for next club site visit 👍 rare to need it on a club site though from my experience

Many times I found 10m slightly too short. So I leave that one at home and now bring a 15m as well as 25m.

If you need a 50m EHU Lead, you may be better advised to move to the field where the pitch is ... :dance2: (y). Possibly worth the extra mileage ...

I know the C&MC say 25 metres due to longer lengths having serious voltage drops. I have been known to “daisy chain” two using one of these special boxes to keep the interconnections (16Amp) water proof and safe for people to see and they are lockable. I carry three 25 metres

I carry a 25m & 15m but rarely used as we very seldom use EHU.
50m is fairly standard in France so I expect that's why you have a 50m.
You will see some Germans often on sites with a 50 metre reel. Very rarely have I had to resort to 50 metres. Once on an international rally I was so far off the temporary power posts I had to hook into a neighbouring outfit to get any power hence my carrying three 50 metres.

The orange thing is fully waterproof when closed
No it isn't. It is IP44 rated, which means weatherproof. It is exactly the same rating as the blue plugs and sockets, so putting the orange cover round them is no better waterproofing. Neither are proof against immersion in standing water, which is why you should ensure your plug won't be in a puddle when it rains.

I have 10m and 25m 2.5mm2 cables, and find that about 80% of the time I can use the 10m. I also have a 25m 1.5mm2.

It give you options. A couple of weeks ago on a CL in South Wales, the hookup was one post with 4 sockets, in a very big field. I could park where I wanted, and run the hookup using two 25m lengths, instead of parking right near the post like the others.

Also, I don't wish to shout about it, but apparently today is INTERNATIONAL CAPS LOCK DAY!!!

At Reil on the Mosel, between us, we and garjanco had to use 3 x cables, then split the supply. :whatthe:

Cheers,

Jock. :)

We have three, a standard orange 25m, a “winter” blue 25m and a 10m “reverse polarity” (yes I know it doesn’t matter) orange 10m.
only had to use more than once in France and was warned by the campsite to bring additional cable.

Trying to think of a reverse polarity joke but can't think of anything yet. 🤔 I need a couple of Bud Lights 😂

Must be special light bulbs for reverse polarity.

One day when you grow up you will discover proper beer.

Can you have reverse polarity in a Bud Light? Or does it dim the illumination to the extent that the glance of affection at one's beloved becomes a Bud Leer [or is that reserved for the Gardener?] (y)

This is still an area of active research. Apparently reversing the polarity of a Bud Light causes CO2 bubbles to be drawn in from the atmosphere instead of bubbling out. It is the main contender for CCS (Carbon Capture and Storage) - more promising than all the other methods, I hear.
