When we got our van it came with a 25m cable. I cut it into a 9 m length and a 16m length. I fitted a plug and a socket to the cut ends. On the 9m one I marked "10 paces" on each connector. One the 16m cable I marked the mid point of the cable and labeled each connector "18 paces". I wound the longer cable doubled onto a cable drum (using the marked mid-point). Why do all this?

Well I now have a short cable that I can use in most situations, a medium cable that is easy to handle, and by connecting them together, one long cable. It's made life easier.

Kept ours at 25m. What isn't used remains loosely (but neatly) coiled on the floor (y)

Did you take into account the verious heights of the bollards and remember to deduct from your paces?;);)(y):D2

I too made a 15m & 10m cable from my 25m one

Rationale was same as OP - rarely need more than 10m cable, a shorter cable is much easier to coil up & store, especially when wet

Don't talk to me about bollards. I reversed into one and the van is being repaired today :(

Place I use in France if you wish to be in a shady spot & using electric then 42 m wasn't enough:( I've another 15m now:sneaky:

We've stayed at one or two places like that in France, where a 25m + 20m cabled joined, were barely long enough. And indeed at one site we had to borrow an extra length to add to that to reach the hook-up point.

Be careful where and how you you connect the two lengths together as the connection may not meet appropriate water ingress spec.
That's the reason we carry both 10m and 25m cables.

CMC sites may not like connected cables. We were directed to the site regs when we used two cables connected with 16 amp blue connectors.

Good point. The connectors are IP44 rated so would probably need some protection in wet conditions. In reality I have only twice had to use both cables here in the UK but I appreciate that things may be different overseas.

i carry 2 cables,
1 x full 25 meters on a drum ( that gets fully un coiled if used )
1 x 10 meter cable for those close by hook ups and use in my drive.
also carry one of these...

IP44 rating means they are OK out in the rain, from any angle. Just make sure they aren't in a puddle, because they're not rated for immersion in water. At Anglesea Abbey near Cambridge there are dozens of these IP44 plug/sockets laid on the grass for the winter illuminations (The flashes are the illuminations, not sparks from the wet connectors:eek:)

You can get IP67 rated plugs (proof against temporary immersion), which have a kind of screw collar and sealing ring. I bought one then discovered it won't fit my MH Mains inlet - the collar gets in the way:(

I use a short and a long cable. 1 x 10 meters and 1 x 15 meters.

This is fine for most situations. The only time I have ever had to connect the 2 were at a meet at a pub where the power supply was in a barn.

I also have 3 of these;

Amazon product ASIN B00CHITOTG
2 for the EHU cables and one for a long ariel extension lead to plug into a site ariel point.

OR, you could have a very short lead and a big generator. Sorted, your welcome !!!

OMG yet another CC Ltd rule :madder:.
But a sensible one. If there's any chance a puddle could form under the connectors during a rainy period the exposed connector is not rated for partial or total submersion. If everyone could be trusted to ensure that couldn't happen then there would be no need for the rule - which is the case with most rules.
