Thinking about it... Would the following work..

4 x 100A 12v batteries wired in parallel , fed by 240 mains, plus a solar panel and possibly a wind turbine, I suspect two controllers?

Output via a 1kw inverter..

Can't remember ;)
Yes it would work but at a loss as to why / what you are trying to do

There is also a switch you can buy that automatically switches you back onto mains if you are overloading the inverter.

Just a tad..
And don’t use the acid batteries, build it with a power wall made up of 18650 cells..

I've just ordered a solar system which includes 2 x 2.4kWh lithium storage batteries. It has the option of adding more.

I have just finished taking our shed off grid. We wanted to put some mains into the shed could have run a cable but had 2 x 100Ah batteries and an 2kw inverter lying around from previous vans, so bought a 100w panel and a very cheap 20A solar controller (70 pounds all in with cables). Now installed in the shed, not the tidiest installation but very pleased (y) and declared safe by a neighbourly electrician.

Am going to use for a light, camera, wifi booster and a Ryobi battery charger, but the real boon is that we can now put a small chest freezer out there to supplement our existing small freezer. Would have it all installed but cannot get the small cheap chest freezer at the moment :(

Considered a wind turbine to supplement the solar in the winter but the costs not worth it, may get a second panel instead but I do not think we shall need it unless the freezer we get is a large one or less efficient (which it wont be).

Wow how much did that lot cost? How many years before you get your money back.

When I priced up a supply to the property back in 2015 they wanted £40,000, so the payback costs are irrelevant as the system cost a lot less that that

Guaranteed power, 24/7 at the flick of a switch!

Its almost like magic

Plug into your house, when the lights go out, they come straight back on!
But, don't forget to trip your breaker before using it

Sniffy won't buy one he is Welsh! To him it will be wizardry!

He would scamper up to it, utter a guttural sound or two, crouch down and peer at it, and tentatively reach out a finger, and after further hesitation touch it! pull his hand back like he had been scolded and run off as fast as he could, shouting and screaming for Tilley to attack the red demon!

For a house storage system, you could use a Victron Multiplus inverter/charger - there is a 1kW model - and 4 x 100Ah batteries. They are used without solar to provide backup for power failures, or to store power from cheaper times to use at peak times.

A Victron SmartSolar controller would integrate perfectly with that setup. You could add a ColourGX panel to view/control everything, or use a VenusGX box with a Smartphone App.

If you're only powering the inverter from the batteries, you could consider 24V or 48V.

The PylonTech batteries suggested by Tykatem integrate very well with Victron systems.

I use the victron 3kw all on one, super simple to use, comes with the colour GX included so I can check and control the system remotely, this is now

The expensive £££'s Wind Turbines are a bit of a con according to Youtube. The advertised power eg, 400W, 600W etc is calculated over 24 hours. I was looking at the Chinese Lantern type but they generate a similar output to a cheap 20W solar panel even if it's windy and they are spinning fast.
As Pappajohn says buy solar or even a genny for occassional or power cut use.
