Just been looking on eBay there's a Ducato 2018 ,new professional conversion ends today current bid £28k, I noticed no mileage
shown so checked MOT history 165,000
Question would you pay that sort of price for it
Also would you have a professional conversion like this done on such a high mileage van

Have to go and drive it and have a look at what it's like. Brought mine at 165k and converted it but knew as soon as I drove it that it was a decent van, clean and drove well. Mines a 2016 and it cost £6500, conversion cost was £10k parts and about 600 hours labour. Would I do it again, yes. If it needs a new engine then so be it.

I used to convert vans for myself and to sell on. Personally mileage never bothered me but come sale time it made selling a bit more difficult.
IF the van drives well and the conversion is good and you are happy with it then go for it. If it’s your first van then I would recommend you spend your money on a recognised converters van that you’ll get your money back on if you sell.
If you’re still looking then post pics and description on here Don’t even think of buying it if it’s not got a proper loo/shower / bathroom at that price

Here in spain that would be low mileage for a six year old van.
i bought mine with extremely low mileage for a 12 year old van at 150k miles & converted it .

My thoughts were if you are going to pay the sort of money they must have paid £15-£20k(probably more)
for a conversion would you maybe pay a bit more for the base vehicle,for 2 reasons one presumably if you aren't doing conversion then you probably won't be doing your own maintenance,2 The higher the mileage the lower the ceiling price of the finished van, a couple of thousand on base van would that add more than that to finished van ?

If everything visible outside and inside is in very good condition then why not? The very worst that can happen is that you have to shell out for a majority of the running gear either new or reconditioned second hand. Will the worst case scenario cost more than a low mileage equivalent? If not then except for the hassle of the repairs it's worth it.

My second mh was a high mileage supposedly already professionally converted van about 180k. The conversion was done in 4mm ply, but the van itself was apparently very good. I redid the ply with quality lightweight vorhinger board and used it for 4 years, during which I did much of Western Europe. It needed a new gearbox which cost £1.7k, but was a beauty to drive. It was sold for roughly what I paid for it including the new gearbox. All on all It was a good buy.

Mines got 128k on it, diesel engines are well capable of 3-400k if looked after and the mileage some motorhomes do that could be 25yrs life in it yet…

Mine is 2011 and the under sealed bodywork is like new, I’d rather a 6yr old van with 60+k then one with 6k….

Our sprinter has just clicked over 400,000 miles I purchased it with 340,000 miles I knew the vehicle it was a escort vehicle for wide loads so not thrashed up and down motorways with full Mercedes service history so I class it as in retirement just like me I have a trip to Spain to deliver a engine and gearbox for a Fiat I was chatting to a Romanian who's Fiat ducato had 525,000 miles he was delivering brand new engines for Mercedes to different main agents around the EU so I would have a drive make sure it is what it is but remember the problem when reselling with high mileage I purchased ours with no intention of reselling and wouldn't hesitate nipping to Spain or Portugal tomorrow

Yes your going to be around the time for renewing bits on it now, but once it’s done when they need doing (just like any van) it will be like new, not wanting to state the obvious but if it’s too much don’t buy it or haggle down to a price your comfortable with…

None of those parts are that expensive, my starter was £80, caliper £60. The biggest problem I have had was the airbag fault.

The main issue is resell value but if anyone who really understands vehicles takes an interest and the vans runs well and has value in the build, the right batteries , solar controllers, inverter, hot water boiler, fridge then the van Will sell.

Tbh I have seen £60k vans with very poor components, hardly any solar, poor fridges, 50 year old tech batteries that I wouldn't go near despite them only having 20,000 miles on the clock, to me there's no value in them, they probably need £10k spending on them to make them modern enough to use without EHU.

List the components in the van and find out how much they are to buy, add it all up and stick 10k for the labour.
