just buying
Hello,
Im looking to purchase a twin axle motorhome in the new year like a chieftain ,aparaho etc around 2010 with u shaped lounge.
With these being a large motorhome, is there problems on campsites due to their size? eg the length etc?

Generally, it’s not a problem. However, it’s always worth a call to the site to let them know that you’d need a a large pitch.

They are common enough, you shouldn't have real problems anywhere.

In the 14 x years we owned an 8 x metre tandem axled Hymer, we never had a problem.

Some sites won't accept longer than that, so best to phone ahead.

Cheers,

Jock. :)

We have an 8.72m Dethleffs tag axle van.

We have found that we could not book some of the club sites on line owing to being over 8m/8.5m long. However, a call to the sites themselves has always enabled us to visit, they just allocated one of the few larger pitches they have.

If it is an independent, we pop them an email advising size (we often tow a trailer with a trike) asking if they have a large pitch and if there are any restrictions for such a large vehicle. This had proved beneficial on many occasions.

Other than length, which is typically a maximum of 8m (or 8.5m) unless longer by arrangement.

The other issue is the tag axle which many sites will not permit you to park on grass as it rips up their manicured lawns.
(Also tag axles tend to be over 3.5t)

Hard standing pitches are usually fine.
